I despair, I really do.

Well I'm guessing that he's going to find it hard to get work as a nurse, as this will now mean he has a criminal record, surely?

LiquidCosh · 24/01/2016 13:31

I would hope so.

I doubt he'll be allowed to work as a nurse after that. Or do any caring role that requires a criminal records check.

Jibberjabberjooo · 24/01/2016 13:42

I'm a nurse and I can't imagine he'll get a job. You have to declare any criminal convictions on the application form for a start.

Aspergallus · 24/01/2016 13:45

No he won't.

He'll be able to complete his studies (at a push) but would be extremely unlikely to get a job.

But nice DM style scare-mongering!

NorthernLurker · 24/01/2016 13:45

He's not going to get a nursing job (or registration) with that record. However it is in everybody's interests that he does get work because his rehabilitation will not be helped by poverty and exclusion from society. I'm not really sure what your concern is OP? Do you think probation and community service is the wrong sentence?

catsonlaps · 24/01/2016 13:47

Hmm I know a nurse with a criminal record though not related to violence.

StealthPolarBear · 24/01/2016 13:49

Why no custodial sentence for a 'ferocious' attack??

MammaTJ · 24/01/2016 13:49

There are some convictions that can be overlooked! Violence is not one of them!

Libitina · 24/01/2016 13:54

It's unlikely that his uni would let him complete the course and qualify and even if they did, he would not be allowed to register as a nurse with that conviction.

MrsH1989 · 24/01/2016 13:55

I doubt he will be able to complete his studies with a criminal record. You have to complete placements as a nurse and no hospital will allow him to work there will that on his record.

MangoBiscuit · 24/01/2016 13:59

IME, this sort of crime would prevent him getting work. He would have to disclose it at the interview, so the position wouldn't be offered. If he didn't disclose, then it would come back on his DBS and the offer of employment would be withdrawn.

MangoBiscuit · 24/01/2016 14:00

catsonlaps, some crimes won't necessarily prevent you getting a nursing job (so long as it's disclosed at interview), but a violent crime would.

MajesticSeaFlapFlap · 24/01/2016 14:01

I would hope he wouldnt be able to register due to the nature of the crime.

I would like to say im shocked and appalled he only got probation and 70 measly hours community service but im not, DV sees to be an acceptable crime still Sad

AyeAmarok · 24/01/2016 14:12

He'd never get a nursing job with that record.

This is the end of his nursing career, quite rightly.

He should be in jail though.

MangoBiscuit · 24/01/2016 14:14

IIRC, he'll have to inform his Uni, who may well kick him out. If not, he'll have to inform the NMC before he can complete his registration, who may well kick him out / deny registration. So the chances of him even making it through shortlisting for a job (without lying through his teeth) are pretty slim.

MangoBiscuit · 24/01/2016 14:14

But yes, he should definitely be in jail for that. Pitiful sentence.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 24/01/2016 14:17

I guess the uni couldn't kick him off the course until he's found guilty. I'm sure they will now.

LiquidCosh · 24/01/2016 14:25

Not scare mongering at all, its a BBC link but I am genuinely shocked that he received such a light sentence IMO. Also that his defence barrister seems to think he will just continue on with his masters and career because he's sorry.

It just seems that this level of violence against women is seen as so commonplace in todays society.

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 24/01/2016 14:51

He won't be allowed to complete his course let alone work in a role demanding an enhanced DBS with a conviction for violence.

Fairydoor · 24/01/2016 16:34

I disagree that he will def not be able to work. I know a nurse cleared to work again after being in court for assault against a minor so sometimes people can carry on working in such jobs (not that I agree with it)

MangoBiscuit · 25/01/2016 07:47

You say after being in court for. Were they found guilty?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 25/01/2016 09:24

Fucking Probation and 70 hours community service. It's not even 2 weeks work.

This justice system is ran by clowns. It's a joke.

choccywoccywoowah · 25/01/2016 09:33

I have two cautions from age 15 (27) now for assault and am still able to work with vulnerable people. Maybe the time lapsed and my age makes a difference though.
