To think people are stupid!

Since moving into a new house this has happened so many times!

I live in a village. It's small but clearly has its own 'identity'. Own train station, high street, church and park. I will call it willton.

Next to the village is a slightly (very slightly) bigger one. This also has a train station high street and church and park. I will call it ellsborough.

I live opposite the train station in willton.

Every time I order a taxi or a pizza or have a new tradesperson coming - they go to ellsborough.

WHY??

How funny!

What is?

freshcleanair · 24/01/2016 12:21

Just that they are lumped together :) when they are very separate really.

Pipbin · 24/01/2016 12:30

But looking at the two places there is no distinct difference between the two. You might see them as different but I can see why people wouldn't get it.

freshcleanair · 24/01/2016 12:34

But one is called Newton and one is called earlestown and there's Newton high st and earlestown high st and earlestown train station and Newton train station ... Grin

OK, but looking on Google earth they seem to be very confused.

There seems to be a Tesco that is called Newton Tesco that is very close to the Earlstown train station.

I can see how the confusion would take place.
Why bring the train station into it at all, just give the street name.

To think people are stupid!
freshcleanair · 24/01/2016 12:42

Because as previously explained this can be misleading due to apartments.

OP posts:
Pipbin · 24/01/2016 12:46

I think this might be the problem too.

This image from Google street view of Earlstown train station.
Now look at the address top left:

Would help if I added the image

I live in a small house in a terrace of five small houses at the end of a cul-de-sac. Along the rest of the cul-de-sac are several blocks of flats.

Every single time we order a takeaway, we get a phone call from the driver, asking which flat ours is. Every single time.

I didn't have any trouble finding the house the first time I came to look at it!

Yes, people are stupid.

ReadyPlayerOne · 24/01/2016 12:57

MM has the same problem. She lives on B Drive in Village. However there is the exact same named street in town. Whenever we order anything we make sure to specify that we are in B Drive, Village and even then it's a 50/50 chance they'll ring us from B Drive, Town to say they're outside the house. Sigh...

ReadyPlayerOne · 24/01/2016 12:57

My mum, that should say!

Vickir1983 · 24/01/2016 12:58

It's because The town is Newton-le-Willows, the town centre is Earlestown and then there is Wargrave. They are not separate places they are all Newton. Hth

freshcleanair · 24/01/2016 12:59

Not quite - Newton has its own town centre and as I've said I think separate train stations generally draw a distinction :) Google might class the Tesco as NLW but it's definitely in earlestown! Grin

OP posts:
Pipbin · 24/01/2016 13:03

The Tesco seems to think it's in Newton too: www.tesco.com/store-locator/uk/?bID=5112

freshcleanair · 24/01/2016 13:04

It isn't!

OP posts:
Pipbin · 24/01/2016 13:04

In fact everything you look up seems to think that Earlestown is a part of Newton, not a separate place.

Vickir1983 · 24/01/2016 13:05

I've always lived there and Newton doesn't have a town centre only the high street. The town centre is Earlestown. Maybe your confusing matters slightly by referring to them as 2 different places? The only problem I've known with mix ups is the road that's east and west (if you know what I mean) people can never tell the difference 😀

freshcleanair · 24/01/2016 13:06

I do think though that when someone says 'I live opposite Newton station' and they trundle off to earlestown then get irritable it's a bit bizarre! Local people this is by the way ...

OP posts:
Pipbin · 24/01/2016 13:07

So what about the police station then? I'm guessing the Police know where they are?

freshcleanair · 24/01/2016 13:07

Pip if someone said they lived opposite X train station would you seriously go to Y because of google maps?!

OP posts:
Vickir1983 · 24/01/2016 13:08

People confusing the train stations are idiots I'll give you that 😀

Pipbin · 24/01/2016 13:10

No, but my town has two train stations. One main one and a small one. If someone told me they lived opposite the trains station then I would go to the larger one.

Lots of people do use google maps.

It's funny as I think Newton high street is very - well, Newton Grin - earlestown is that separate place with the tesco Grin

Wish it WAS in Newton! I spend half my life running to it!
