A bit of background, toddler is dairy free, hates water and gets constipated easily. This is her typical days diet, I think she eats too much sugar and I need ideas on how to reduce it!

Breakfast: full sugar blackcurrant high juice, wholemeal toast with dairy free spread and a teaspoon of jam
Snack; vanilla soya milk, banana, Apple, raisins
Lunch: ham sandwich on wholemeal bread with dairy free spread, cucumber, peppers, olives, innocent fruit tube, blackcurrant high juice
Snack: chocolate soya milk, rich tea biscuit
Dinner: sausage, mash, peas, satsuma, blackcurrant high juice

I give ds oatly milk sometimes to switch it up and so he doesn't get too reliant on the sweet soya milk. Make sure you get blue carton oatly, not the brown organic one as that doesn't have the added bits and bobs (I was advised this by the dietician at the hospital). Could be worth getting some just as another option? I was also advised that the hovis 50/50 bread was the best one for dairy intolerance /allergy as it had added calcium.

I was told to watch for signs of intolerance to soya but luckily ds isn't showing any, if your DD is not settled maybe it would be worth a switch for a fortnight or so to see if there's any difference? As it's a completely different taste it might help kick the sweet flavoured milk habit too.

What about Rock's Cordial? It only has natural ingredients in it I believe and is quite strong so you wouldn't need much.

CallieG you really think someone would introduce a dairyfree diet for no reason? I hope you're going to apologise. What a judgy post without asking questions first.

This thread is helpful for me as dd has a dairy and egg allergy and it can be hard to find snacks. We eat white bread, cheerios at breakfast sometimes (sugary but high in calcium), spinach and df pesto pastry pinwheels (jus-rol is dairy free), peanut butter on stuff, hummus on stuff, low-sugar beans (until she went off them), oat milk, jacobs crackers or breadsticks sometimes for snacks. We do eat way too many rich tea or choc-chip hob nobs though...

CallieG sugar does NOT cause 'childhood diabetes' ??? What are you even referring to? Do you mean Type 1 diabetes ? If so then I would like to explain to you that it is actually an autoimmune condition and not caused by sugar.

Banana can bung you up - try replacing with soft fruit like blueberries and raspberries, they certainly have the opposite effect! And I would cut out the dried fruit - no moisture and very very sweet. Can you gradually make the juice drink more watered down? Many people give toddlers real fruit juice diluted with water, not so sweet.
