It's changed so much since the turn of the century. How different do you think the UK will look in 15-20 years? Any radical changes? Do you think it will be better or worse for those currently living here?

I think that women will be required to wear a burka cover up and 'dress modestly' and we will be on the steady road to losing our hard won rights.

I think the age of consent will be lowered and there will be an increasing acceptance of adult/child relationships. I hope I'm wrong though.

All public toilets will be 'unisex' and women won't be able to use them because they'll be relentlessly pestered by sexist men. Women will start remaining at home if they're menstruating or have bladder problems, and even those who don't, won't be able to venture very far.

There will be absolutely no mental health services whatsoever and the population will become increasingly unhappy and distressed.

The NHS will be a thing of the past and the government will introduce a shoddy private service for the poorer people - it won't cost the earth each month, but will deliver a shockingly bad service and people will suffer greatly. Life expectancy will fall.

Everything will be frightening, grey and miserable.

TannhauserGate · 21/01/2016 19:50

The fall in life expectancy is likely to take a little longer than 15 years. Probably 25.

15 years is nothing- the millennium was 15 years ago!

hiddenhome2 · 21/01/2016 19:56

People's life expectancy is already falling due to obesity and other health related issues though.

Werksallhourz · 21/01/2016 19:57

I have to add though ... I think there is a likelihood of war on the horizon.

There are a number of forces in Britain, the EU and on a global level that are evidently itching for war with Russia. If we get pulled into that, all bets are off.

The other thing is that Charles will be King.

Kreacherelf · 21/01/2016 20:06

There will be less chavs and more tramps.

hiddenhome2 · 21/01/2016 20:07

Charles won't ever be King as the Queen will live until she's around 120 Grin

Cliff will finally croak.

I think car ownership will have decreased and congestion will be much less. Parking on residential roads is already pretty horrific in many areas. I predict charges will be introduced - perhaps in the next five years or so, on those who have several cars parked on the street, vans, big SUV (which take up room). Also more roads will have charges to drive on them. This further 'hassle' could result in less car ownership, we may hire cars as and when. And in my dreams much improved public transport.

Birdsgottafly · 21/01/2016 21:19

I think if we come out of the EU, Human Rights will become eroded.

Feminism will take a step backwards and I agree that the immigration happening will bring more intolerance and there will be less policies/laws to stop this from happen.

I've seen steps backwards since the 90's.

As Poverty increases, so will certain crimes, the Right Wingers will spend extra on Prisons, the Justice System, as they did in the 80's (and other eras), which will mean cuts in vulnerable services.

Out of the HRA and there'll be a vote for the Death Penalty, especially as Prison Service Costs rise.

They generally counteract any uprising by going soft on WC drugs, again.

I'm struggling to see the connection in this statement...

HootsMon · 21/01/2016 21:31

The country will be full of traffic, and nobody will be able to get anywhere in any reasonable amount of time.

Haven't you heard? We are all going to be travelling around in pipes!

I think the gap between rich and poor will continue to grow.

I think the boomers will still be marching on while the next generation dies younger because of lifestyle and poverty and the degrading of the NHS.

I think that more of the UK will be under water at least part time - coastal areas but also flood prone areas.

I think people will live much of their lives online, which will have positives and negatives, unless there is a huge backlash against too much tech time / smart gadgetry.

My biggest worry is that we will have lost the NHS to the old Etonians selling bits of it off to their bessies.

Justanotherlurker · 21/01/2016 21:42

Initial costings have proven that it would devalue house prices, so it's a no go

/sarcasm just in case I need to point it out.

suzannecaravaggio · 21/01/2016 21:52

Free electricity thanks to ubiquitous and much more efficient solar cell technology

HelenaDove · 21/01/2016 21:57

traffic wardens will be unpaid

I understood this statement to mean that authorities become much more tolerant towards drug taking and supply when they need to be. People who are more stupid, lazy, relaxed and happy on drugs are less likely to be motivated enough to start an uprising. But I could be wrong.

I think Birdsgottafly was spot in with this observation, it's one I've made myself.

Woodhill · 21/01/2016 22:05

I think women will lose their freedom, more crowded urban areas and no go areas. Think Islam will be more prevalent.

suzannecaravaggio · 21/01/2016 22:09

cheap flexible wall size TVs
gender equality will be taken for granted
obesity and diabetes easy to treat

medical treatment tailored to individual genome
virtual reality

why are so many of you so pessimistic??

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 21/01/2016 22:13

Because it's January and the sun has gone AWOL!

HelenaDove · 21/01/2016 22:16

All low and middle level jobs will be workfare.

suzannecaravaggio · 21/01/2016 22:22

many current employment roles will be taken over by technology
some version of UBI will be in place
changes to the tax system, wealth or land tax instead of income tax

suzannecaravaggio · 21/01/2016 22:33

everything will be just lovely
until the big meteorite hits and all life on earth is instantly vaporized

Justanotherlurker · 21/01/2016 22:40

Fair enough, it was the contradictory going soft as though it was just a 'right wing' sentiment against drug policy, framing it into a WC issue seems naive at best and belittling at worst, but hey ho.

FWTW I think drug policy will be reformed, canabis will be legal within a couple of years after America is showing that it is useful tax income and it has reduced associated crime. I also expect longer term that harder drugs to become discussed under this umbrella as it is proven drug laws don't work, I don't however think that relaxing the drug laws are some right wing conspiracy nor do I think it will be a general sedative to the populace as you only have to look at the current thinkers who are dabbling in the 'illegal' drug trade or are functioning alcoholics.
