to discuss the values held by DD's swimming club. So far as I can tell the values are, "don't be a twat and try to do better tomorrow than you did today". I have nothing of any use to add that.

AIBU to have other plans that night?

Unless your child is hoping for Olympic glory, then stay home and eat cake with my blessing.

Suggest getting this poster put up in the changing rooms.

FauxFox · 18/01/2016 16:14

You should demand:
A supportive culture, not a 'sink or swim' approach (safety issues)
All kids should have a chance to 'reach out' to the pool life guards if needed
Nervous newcomers should be encouraged to 'dip their toe in the water'
Discuss whether current name/branding makes the right 'splash'
What are the future plans? Don't want to be seen to be 'treading water'

If there is time after that suggest everyone jumps into the 'think tank' and swims around to see if there are any further ideas...

suzannecaravaggio · 18/01/2016 16:17

it does sound like the first stage in some sort of pyramid selling scheme

HanYOLO · 18/01/2016 16:21

I think you should go, and then make a sitcom out of it starring Hugh Bonneville

DrDreReturns · 18/01/2016 16:23

No one should be thrown in at the deep end.

2boysnamedR · 18/01/2016 16:26

I was thinking pyramid scheme....

I really want this as my email sign off as a inspirational quote ....

"We are living in a material world and I am a material girl"

Just because I am fed up of all those "Sucess is 10% attitude and 90% selling your granny" type quotes. The above totally sums up my attitude to why I go into work every day

DrGoogleWillSeeYouNow · 18/01/2016 16:27

I was convinced this was going to be a Forever Living thread. In fact, it won't surprise me if it turns out that it is a FL recruitment meeting in disguise.

ohdearlord · 18/01/2016 16:34

Wtf is "thinking across the piece"?

SO tempted to stick this thread on the changing room notice board. But somewhat afraid that would make my absence rather conspicuous Grin

A couple of my inspirational faves (completely out of context, obvs):

  • If people are trying to bring you down it only means that you are above them.
  • If your dreams don’t scare you they aren’t big enough.
  • A successful woman is one who can build a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at her.
  • She believed she could, so she did….💃

Topical one - You’re only one swim away from a good mood 😁

Sweetdreamsforall · 18/01/2016 16:44

Can't believe just read a thread where the americanised term 'excited about' is annoying us all, yet this level of $hit goes on unnoticed...

Is Kris Kardashian hosting?

DrDreReturns · 18/01/2016 16:46

Sweetdreamsforall it's tongue in cheek..

2boysnamedR · 18/01/2016 16:46

Favourite quote at work is "let's take that offline" something to stop a conversation you don't want to deal with in a meeting.

So if it IS FL throw that quote in as they will be trying to work out what the hell it means while you can run for the hills.

Why can't they just say "that's not really relevant so let's discuss later" I hate these buzz words. I might make one up one day. I bet no one would dare say I'm talking nonsense.

OP - my rational side says - fuck nooooooo fucking way should you entertain this corporate, wanky, aquatic bollocks. My other side says - ooh do go and tell us just how bad it is. So we can all piss ourselves laughing.

2boysnamedR I believe the truly successful mortgage their granny and leverage the capital to buy more grannies in a tax-efficient way. Just a little tip for those who aspire to have 10+ grannies. Or a fucktonne of one bedroomed flats.

SaucyJack · 18/01/2016 16:58

Are they going to perform an artistic interpretation of said values through the medium of synchronised swimming?

Out2pasture · 18/01/2016 17:17

Please sign up to be a timer at the next swim meet. How about a turn judge. Will you take billets? It's easy to only think of a precious future olympian and not get into the club feeling. Especially in cut throat sports like swimming. And let's not forget the parents nasty chatter in the bleachers...
