To expect my driving instructor to arrive on time?

I live in East London and am learning to drive. I have lessons on Mondays because that's my husband's day to work from home, so he looks after our 16 month old DS while I go out and drive. I started learning in November. The problem is that my instructor has never once been on time. She's either 30 mins early or 30 mins late, and often there's another student in the back of the car that I have to 'drop off' on my lesson. I was due to start my lesson at 2 today and just got a phone call at five past to say that she's about 5 miles away and 'on her way'. Who knows when she'll get here?! Husband has to go to the bank before it shuts later and he's fretting now about getting there.

AIBU? Should I ditch her? My test is booked for next month!

Will she give you extra time?

goodnightdarthvader1 · 18/01/2016 15:14

That is ridiculous. I'd be fuming.

nortonhouse · 18/01/2016 15:14

OMG mrsgembles! Ridiculous!!! What are your options here?

Tweetypie100 · 18/01/2016 15:15

That is AWFUL. Can you dump him?

I just passed my test and had two instructors, one my DH convinced me to dump as he was just so awful - when we were out driving he wouldn't even teach me, he would just take me out for a drive and let me make the same mistakes over and over again. I guess he wanted to drag out his meal ticket (ie me!). I took one test under my new instructor and passed straight away. She went over stuff with me and made sure I was aware of my mistakes and encouraged me to drive in my spare time. She was more expensive. I think you also get what you pay for with these instructors.

GloGirl · 18/01/2016 15:18

Come on, who can give a drive by doughnut or something, stop you withering away whilst you wait. Any local MNER? ! Grin

InternationalHouseofToast · 18/01/2016 15:20

Can you just put your hand on your horn and stay there like that until she appears? Alterantively lock the car, hand the key into the accountants and get the bus home / ask your DH to pick you up. Tell the receptionist that the lady's learner driver will not be learning with her any more.

DancingDinosaur · 18/01/2016 15:22

No way Grin Dump her. Mine used to eat his lunch in my time, so I dumped him. I feel your pain!

goodnightdarthvader1 · 18/01/2016 15:28

I would say "forget it" and drive myself home. Fucking amateurs. Angry

Jux · 18/01/2016 15:34

Ho boy is she taking the piss. I'd make her drive me home (or drive myself home with her in the car), refuse to pay for the 'lesson' and ditch her.

Adarajames · 18/01/2016 15:34

I hope you'll be demanding a refund!?! Totally crap, make sure you leave honest feedback somewhere relevant / complain to school if is part of bigger group

SheHasAWildHeart · 18/01/2016 15:35

If you're not far from home leave the car and take the keys with you. Let her come and get the keys if she needs her car that badly. Don't book another lesson with her ever!

MsMims · 18/01/2016 15:36

Mrs your stranded photo made me smile but joking aside, this is really unprofessional.

If you still need quite a bit of tuition, I would find someone else who isn't so tardy and actually cares about their customers.

My instructor did get quite bad at timekeeping/ chatting instead of driving towards the end of my lessons but she was an otherwise good instructor and I was about to take my test. Wouldn't have hesitated to drop her if I still had a way to go as lateness is one of my bug bears.

notquitehuman · 18/01/2016 15:37

Leave the keys in the ignition and get the bus home! She'll soon get the message. Utterly unprofessional. (I'm kidding, don't really get her car nicked)

Ask on a local FB group for instructors. You'll get dozens of recommendations. Can DH take you out for practice? If you've got 4 weeks to go then you've probably covered most of the basics anyway.

Upthenoonoo · 18/01/2016 15:40

Bloody hell what a piss taker!! I wouldnt even pay her for the lesson today either. Tell her to do one op!

MrsGradyOldLady · 18/01/2016 15:40

Jesus! She sounds a crap driving instructor and as well as crap in her day to day life. Her accountant is probably right now telling her to fuck off no way is he preparing her accounts and tax return (due in less than 2 weeks!). She's probably pleading with him. That's what's causing the delay.

ShhhBeQuiet · 18/01/2016 15:41

Your photo is soooooo funny. Grin. Too late now but I would insist on the wasted time being added on to the end of the lesson.

Cheeky mare.

ShhhBeQuiet · 18/01/2016 15:44

If she disputes your timings you can show her this thread Wink

Lalalax3 · 18/01/2016 15:44

I shall be calling her bosses and ditching her imminently!

She made me drive her to her accountants in Forest Gate, then left me in the car for 15 mins while she went in with her accounts, then made me drive her home. Then said, on the way back, 'You really need to work on your parking' - NO FUCKING SHIT?!?! That's what we should have been doing?!? We also got stuck behind a funeral limo and she said 'Those cars look so comfy to ride in' to which I replied 'Well I didn't really notice last time I was in one because I was BURYING MY MOTHER.'

bornwithaplasticspoon · 18/01/2016 15:48

Did you carry on with the lesson?

Stillunexpected · 18/01/2016 15:53

Have you spoken to the company yet? That is outrageous behaviour.

LagunaBubbles · 18/01/2016 15:57

Did you get a full lesson in the end or did she count the time she left you alone? That is so out of order!

ShhhBeQuiet · 18/01/2016 15:57

Dreary me, she is terrible. Angry

JacquelineChan · 18/01/2016 16:00

I used to be your neighbour ( E16).

Anyway I had the same problem recently with a driving instructor until a friend pointed out I'm paying her to work for me. In effect I am her employer - as a boss would I put up with this kind of thing from staff ? - NO

Iwonderwhy123 · 18/01/2016 16:02

Once or twice with very good reason is fair enough but she's just taking the mick now
