sil has changed Facebook pic to my deceased dog

We had to have our dog pts on Friday. She was older than my kids and we had her at 8 weeks old, so very much missed. As a tribute my husband and I changed our FB pics to one of the dog. This morning I noticed my sil has used the same pic as her profile pic. She hardly ever saw the dog. Can't decide if its weird she's done it or think its sweet.

So which do you think? Weird or sweet?

Sorry for your loss. We had our boy pts yesterday. It's heartbreaking.

Has she put a status update? I think her heart is probably in the right place.

It's normal to change your Profile Pick to someone whose died.

She's done it to support you and show that she respects your loss.

I appreciated others support when I had to get my Old GS PTS and when I had my current dog stolen.

I miss my GS boy, as much and more than I missed cousins who I hardly saw, that have died.

She's just recognising the strength of feelings you might be having and putting a small tribute to a loved (by family members) dog.

Depends.

Presumably someone will ask her "What's with the dog on your profile pic?" and she'll either say "That's Rover, he belonged to my DB and SIL, sadly he was pts recently - 😟 For them xx" which is sweet.

Or

"That's Rover - he was soooo gorgeous, I'm feeling so sad and missing him soooo much 😟😟😟 " which isn't sweet.

Definitely weirdly sweet. Unless here is some huge backstory.

To be honest I find it a teeny bit weird that you changed your profile picture too but I completely understand that lots of people would do the same so maybe it's me who is weird Smile

Anyway, I'm very sorry to hear about you dog. Thanks

Strange.....

Sorry to hear of your dog. It's horrible isn't it. Flowers x

SatsukiKusakabe · 18/01/2016 12:55

I think sweet and presumably to show support for her brother (?) and you.

I don't really get facebook though so not sure whether I'd have done the same as you or her. It's just a picture.

Sorry about your girl, I know how it feels to pts a much loved dog. It is heartbreaking.

FishWithABicycle · 18/01/2016 13:04

I'd go for sweet. Would have been weird and creepy to just do it without prompting but as you and DH have both done it, she is doing this to show compassion, respect and support for you in your grief. Loads of people have changed their profile pics to David Bowie or Alan Rickman recently, it's just an emerging cultural phenomenon for how people express their feelings about stuff.

BillBrysonsBeard · 18/01/2016 13:10

I think sweet!
Whichever people choose says more about them than your SIL.

BillBrysonsBeard · 18/01/2016 13:10

P.s sorry for your loss OP, dogs are family Flowers

Damselindestress · 18/01/2016 13:13

I think it's a bit weird because she hardly knew your dog but, unless she has a history of insensitive or attention seeking behaviour, she was probably trying to be sweet and show that she was thinking of you. I wouldn't mention it. Sorry for your loss.

When my sister had a very beloved pet put down the whole family changed their profile pics to honour the pet. Slightly different in that she was a tween then but the ideas the same I imagine. My ex ndn changed her profile pic to one of my then baby daughter a few days after meeting us. Now that was weird.

Sweet trying to show her support for you. Sorry for your loss Flowers

ScoutandAtticus · 24/01/2016 08:51

Sorry for your loss .

I can't imagine anyone doing this out of malice. It's a bit odd but I like to think it's well meant.
