Aibu to want the mole on my face removed?

I am fair skinned with quite a few freckles. I also have several moles on my face (hundreds on my body) and one in particular really bothers me. It is large and dark And in middle of my cheek! I have hated it forever and it really affects my confidence. I think about it everytime I look in mirror and feel sad.

I went previously to Nhs dr who said I could be left with a scar or a keloid scar if I had it removed and it could potentially look worse than before! So I left it.

Recently it's been upsetting me though. My family members keep mentioning my flaws ("has it grown" "did you know you have one here too"etc) it's really starting to piss me off but got me thinking about if I could pay to have it done by a private plastic surgeon. My family pointing out my flaws is another thread for another day!

Anyone got any advice? Did you have it done and do you have a scar? Any recommendations for a good surgeon?

This thread has motivated me to find out about getting mine removed too. I've 'inherited' it from my grandmother, who had one that looked exactly the same in the exact same place on my chin, and I absolutely hate it as every time I look in the mirror it reminds me of her and how horrible she was to me. It really, really, really gets me down. :/

My GP won't refer me for removal and I can't currently afford the £400+ that I've been quoted for a private consultation but I just don't think I can bear to have this enormous thing on my face any more so I'm going to save up and get it done before my next birthday. At least then my youngest son will stop asking me if I'm a witch because I've got a 'witch mark' on my face!

Thanks for all the advice! It's been really helpful and motivating!

£700 is crazy. Ive had two removed before as they were on my neck and rubbed. GP took it and it took five mins for both.

I had a referral in high school and they totally put me off saying the scar would potentially be worse than the mole.

Went back 10 years later and they referred me again and it was whipped off quickly and no scarring at all! So glad I done it. And it was on my nose!!!!

Just wish I hadn't been put off years before.

I had a small mole removed from my lower lipline. Cost £500 at a local private hospital.

My advice is to find a plastic surgeon not a dermo.

Surgeons who deal with the face, face lifts, work after injuries etc know how to do it better in my opinion.

I had 3 stitches in it and now there is no scar at all- nothing.

Yes to a plastic surgeon, I mentioned a dermo when discussing improving freckles.
