I live and work in a ski resort and we have (finally) had a lot of snow over the past week particularly over night last night and this morning. This of course means lots of snow on the roads and pavements. Both are constantly cleared to avoid a build up but usually leaving a couple of cm snow.
As I drive through the village this morning I counted five occasions where parents were pulling their babies along the road in sledges despite there being a perfectly usable pavement either next to them or on the opposite side of the road.
On one occasion at a T junction(I was going straight on) a family were standing chatting in the road with their baby in a sledge right next to a completely cleared pavement. I had to stop (cars coming from the other direction) so I beeped at the family, pointed to the baby and then to the pavement. I received a death stare back but the family did move.
I really do think some people leave their brains behind when they go on holiday. Yes, the roads are slippery enough for a sledge... That also means it is slippy enough to make it hard for cars to stop if your baby's sledge swings out into the road or if someone walks out in front of a car forcing you to slam on your brakes.
