To have lost my temper

I finished work earlier today, and just got two phone calls from a colleague asking where something was. First time I politely said I didn't know and perhaps to ask colleague X.

Then she rang back to say colleague X had said I moved it and where was it, I said I didn't remember and pointed out it was a few hours ago now, colleague makes me look through my pockets and just kept saying 'well it is not there it it not there' I said to ring out boss and she said well what can they do so I said well what do you want me to do and she just kept repeating I had it last!

WIBU to have shouted at her in the end?

They obviously did look where you were working though, between phone call one and two.

If you did have it last, and it was important, I think you were unreasonable to shout, yes.

I had a colleague do this with very much the insinuation it was my problem despite me being part time and not being in work for the next 2 days. It was a team piece of kit and someone said I was the last to use it a few weeks previously therefore I should know where it was. I put it back in the cupboard after I'd used it so when she kept saying "but it's not there" and I kept saying "but that's where I left it" I too got irate after the 3rd or 4th time I repeated myself. I ended up just saying "can't you ask around see if anyone else has borrowed it in the meantime?" Oh yeah she hadn't done that. Turns out someone had borrowed it without logging it out and had left it in the meeting room. Was still there when she went to look. All she needed to do was ask our team of 10 people who pretty much sit within earshot of her voice. But she never actually phoned back to say they'd found it so I worried for 2 days even though I knew I was in the right. If the same person keeps saying the same thing without listening I am prone to getting irate so in my world YANBU.

Some people need guidance to look for things if they are not right in front of them and can therefore find it irritating if it isn't where it should be. She may not have the common sense to look under some papers on a desk. If you know they were definitely in a particular room I wouldn't worry about it, unless it's a habit of yours to be absentminded as this can be annoying.

If I was absolutely certain of where I'd left it, I'd have been deeply irritated. But losing your temper noticeably in a work situation is a bad idea, it makes you look unprofessional.

i think someone ringing me when i had a, left work and b,already answered their question shows they can't cope more than me

To be honest I wouldn't have answered the phone the second time.
