To not want to get rid of all my books

I have a lot of books. I love to read, teach English, have been collecting for forty years.

In the last three years I have got rid of over half of my collection. We are down to three large bookcases, each in a different room, and some smaller ones.

Now DH wants to get rid of the large bookcase in the dining room. I have cleared one shelf and can clear another, but that is it.

AIBU? Half of this bookcase is his cookbooks and I don't notice many of those going!

10 huge floor to ceiling bookcases and 5 smaller ones in this house. Mostly DH
beloved specialist collection. Did a cull when I started volunteering in a charity bookshop (though that has it's own temptations)
But it's so satisfying when someone mentions book and you know you have a copy...just finished The Paris Wife and inspired to read Hemingway's A movable Feast. And there it was .I use the library a lot and don't buy much but there arecsome titles I just couldn't part with. I love my Kindle but only for holidays/travelling
And I do like books furnishing a room They definitely say something about me

HeavyFrost I got two of the large IKEA Billy bookcases and then chopped up a third narrow one to join them together and fill an alcove. It was a bit of effort but only cost £100. We are in a rented house so couldn't build anything in or fix it to the wall.

Well, we have reorganised. I have half of the bookcase space in that room that I had before, but thanks to a cull of cookbooks and kids' activity books it isn't too bad. I've been promised replacement shelves in the study and I reckon I can add some extra space there too.

Unfortunately, I discovered the three large boxes of books I'm storing in the garage while we were sorting out. Where the fuck I'm going to put them I don't know....

If I put every book in the house on the floor in one room I wouldn't be able to get in there....

That's a sign you need a bigger house OP. Grin

Even pre kindle I never kept books they were passed around family group , name written on the inside cover when read and when noone else wanted them passed on to a charity shop. Miss all that since we all bought kindles.
