To think that the daily mail or the daily express constantly predicting snowamegdon is a bit ridiculous

Every few weeks one if these paper predicts something stupid like the worse winter in uk history. I know Scotland and the north of England have had snow, but it's been nothing out of the ordinary. As far as I know the scots and northern England have coped.

It had been a very wet and windy winter and certainly York and other areas has suffered badly from flooding. I don't think there has been exceptional amounts of snow yet.

These stories usually quote Piers Corbyn (Jeremy's brother!) and James Madden, both of whom run weather forecasting companies and seem deranged. There's actually a Facebook group devoted to monitoring Madden, who runs his own page like an autocratic dictator, blocking every post that points out his predictions have not come true. He predicted snow chaos last winter, and for last November too!

Hulababy a good 3 inches in North Leeds last night and as it all fell after 6 I don't know how clear the roads are. Have to drive DD back to uni in Huddersfield today and leaving it as late as possible. Good luck!

The Express headlines are notorious for being a constant cycle of weather, pensions, house prices, and miracle cures - mostly for things like Alzheimer's and arthritis. I really can't think why anyone pays out good money for it.

BlueMoonRising · 17/01/2016 09:38

The Express admitted a few years ago that when they have these weather headlines, they sell 10% more papers.

As for the 'Winter set to last till spring' headline one Facebook - yes that was a pisstake. Quite an obvious one!

It pisses me off. I get all excited and come snow day there's fuck all! Every bloody year for years now. I remember we had fantastic snow for a week a few years back but nothing since. It used to snow every year but not now. It's very sad really.

knobblyknee · 17/01/2016 10:34

There is at least. an inch of snow outside today!

Toystory4 · 17/01/2016 11:06

Lazy journalism. Let's put this out there even though our weather forecasters can't seem to predict weather one hour ahead let alone 4 weeks.

I suppose it's a day off from Isis killing people though!

Babyroobs · 17/01/2016 11:24

The Daily Express loves to scaremonger with lots of wildly exagerrated stories, but particulalry those related to weather. They have been predicting this 'snowbomb' slamming into the UK and the worst winter for 50 years for weeks now. They do the same every year and I rarely believe a word of what that paper says.

GruntledOne · 17/01/2016 11:25

The Express has massively reduced its journalism staff. It's much easier for a low-paid overworked journo to churn out yet another fictional weather story than to go out and investigate and analyse.

Scottish news yesterday ITS SNOWING BECAREFUL ITS SNOWING cut to a clip of a clear motorway Grin.

Well the DC are happy. They saw some 'proper' snow at about 8am. It started to stick but soon stopped so it had all melted by 10am but I have a very happy almost 3yo. The last time we had a decent covering she was only a month old.
