To think James Corden's Carpool Karaoke is dangerous

I love James Cordon and I think the Carpool Karaoke's are brilliant but, having just watched the one with Adele where he's driving around central London- I just kept thinking isn't it a bit dangerous to be concentrating on anything other than driving?

I think I saw them filming this. The car was on tow, with the crew filming from the truck but with a hood between the truck and the car. Which would explain why he's steering, but not genuinely navigating the traffic.

I've really gone off Adele since she was outed as using aggressive tax avoidance and only pays a tiny percentage in tax.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 14/01/2016 17:24

Adele is so over rated

MiddleClassProblem · 14/01/2016 17:25

I thought she just complained about paying tax, didn't not pay it

DyslexicScientist · 15/01/2016 10:16

Oh I thought she was a tax avoider like that dreadful Garry malt loaf or whatever . Then she started to pay higher rate tax and had a bitch about being too famous to use the NHS.

I watched one of his car pool videos online with Carrie Underwood and they were singing one of her songs about Jesus taking the wheel.

He then took his hands off the steering wheel and joked about Jesus had taken the wheel. The cars steering wheel was moving slightly and I thought it looked like it was on one of those towing things.

Whitney168 · 15/01/2016 10:31

He is sooo not driving.

MadeMan · 15/01/2016 16:19

"Aren't they on one of those special tricks that make it look like they're driving, bit they're not?"

Like in those old James Bond films with Sean Connery, where he's clearly holding the steering wheel dead straight, but the mountainous road in the background is swerving about all over the place.

internaldiscord · 15/01/2016 20:11

the producer explained they have their own cars driving ahead and behind like a motorcade. this link explains it pretty well.

I've always assumed he's driving, and then wince as he waves his hands in the air.

varicoseveronica · 15/01/2016 20:35

I've just watched the Adele clip, she seems so lovely. I reckon she's a MNetter.

DarkDarkNight · 15/01/2016 21:04

I assumed it was a mix as well, and well edited. I love them, the Justin Bieber one is the only thing I can watch of his.

I wasn't sure about Adele, she didn't come across well to me, maybe she was just nervous.

lazybones77 · 15/01/2016 23:51

I don't think she's a MNetter. After her comment about a 'mum Bob' I don't think she'd want to associate herself with us normal mums. Grin

DyslexicScientist · 16/01/2016 08:03

Of course they have a car going in front! Where else did the shots of the car in front come from Grin

SpaceDinosaur · 16/01/2016 08:07

It's a rig like this

The cutaways etc are filmed entirely separately. If you're watching them drive from behind, chances are it's either a pair of "doubles" (if you think you can see the occupants) driving the route, or usually, just a crew member driving the route. There's usually 2 shots of actual Corden driving the passengers but mixed in.

It's very very well done and James Corden, like a PP said, is brilliant at "acting driving" Smile

SpaceDinosaur · 16/01/2016 08:13

The producers interview? I honestly don't believe his "knuckle camera" story. He's got a job to keep the illusion alive.

MiddleClassProblem · 16/01/2016 08:24

You don't believe they use small cameras? That's odd because loads of driving shows or shows about shit drivers use them. How do you think they film the star in reasonably priced car on top gear? Or that show where Rob Brydon was driving around (definitely real as he drove past some of my old haunts)

I think it's not on a rig as you see external shots of them talking to people who you see them taking to from the interior too if that makes sense. I believe the convoy thing as that is cheap to do.
However they could well have been safer for London. LA roads are wider and straighter for the majority. Probably on a better condition too

DyslexicScientist · 16/01/2016 09:14

Radio one have been filming "celebs' giving children lifts to school recently. No rigs used, unless they've gone to a great deal of effort to film and edit them out. Doubt they have as its just videos for s radio station.
