AIBU about neighbours dog?

A neighbour has a dog which he seems to let out early in the morning (poo time or whatever) in his garden near to us. Sometimes this is at 7am but sometimes it's before at 6.45am. The dog appears to be trained to bark to ask to be let in the house. We don't get up till 7.15 and sometimes are woken by the dog. We have asked him once nicely to stop and he made no comment - took no notice- anything we should do if it carries on?

OP maybe you could suggest your neighbour trains his dog to use the door bell if the small amount of barking bothers you so much.

You're seriously suggesting that your neighbour should cycle perhaps 20 or more miles to work or park in a different street and wake someone else instead of you? Confused.

The fact remains that no one HAS to have a dog. Those that do need to make sure their pet has no impact on other people.

People don't need to fly helicopters above my house either.

He's a fat bastard, would do him good.

I can't believe you're seriously suggesting people who want to have a dog shouldn't have them. People don't HAVE to have a dog, nor do they HAVE to have a car. Both are lifestyle choices and perfectly legal. Both may irritate the neighbours.

And it's only 3 miles to his work.

No Anthony it wasn't a serious suggestion because it's a disproportionate solution to a very minor problem.

Exactly the same in fact as getting rid of a dog because it barks a couple of times 15 minutes before your neighbours wake up.

And most of us don't have to have cars. Just look at the people who don't have them...who only accept jobs in places they can get to.

People don't have to allow their dogs to bark to be let in, it's that simple. It's ridiculous talking about helicopters and people going to work as if they are the same thing.

By all means people who want to have dogs can have them. what many people object to is that those dogs are allowed to impact on other people.

koreanlady is correct. I wasn't being serious.

Because as a normal, tolerant person who chose to live in close proximity to others I accept there will be noise. Although I do fucking hate teenager next door's motorbike which im sure is illegally loud. But i grit my teeth and say nothing.

My dog barks at drunk people taking a shortcut through the woods behind our house.

I'm fascinated, am I unreasonable for allowing my dog to hear their singing, or are they unreasonable for drunkenly singing (they are rugby-ists, it's the same once a week) at two am in the woods?

Or maybe we should all just be a little more tolerant?

Elderly I didn't say anything about getting rid of any dog. Touch of dementia setting in???

Report
ElderlyKoreanLady · 12/01/2016 23:32

I'm sure there are plenty of things that you don't have to do that make noise bourdic. Whether it's necessary isn't the question here. It's whether those noises are loud and prolonged enough to be considered a nuisance.

SnuffleGruntSnorter · 12/01/2016 23:32

Maybe it's because I selfishly chose to have woods behind the house. No one HAS to have woods.

There have been examples on here of responsible dog owners who deal with the early morning issue thoughtfully. It just doesn't have to be a problem - the neighbours are making it one.

Well people can think what they want. At the end of the day OP can waste her time with environmental health if she wishes. Won't do any good. Will fuck her relationship with her neighbour up, will have to be disclosed if she wants to sell the house. Dog will still bark to come in.

ElderlyKoreanLady · 12/01/2016 23:34

No dementia here, no. And what a tasteful argument Hmm

So you're just saying that they don't have to have a dog, not that they should return to a dog-free state? Doesn't seem like you're actually talking about a solution there then.

Elderly - can't think of one actually. I am a model neighbour. In my street, we are all very considerate - when my next door neighbour was going to be putting up some new shelves, he came round to warn us of the drilling and asked if there were any times to avoid.

Elderly was meant to be a joke.... To go with your posting name.....

I'm just saying that if people want to have dogs they need to keep them in such a way that there is no impact on their neighbours, such as not letting a dog bark to be let in at 6.45 am.

Sixweekstowait · 12/01/2016 23:39

For heavens sake, a dog barking at a noise made by drunks which is totally outside of the control of the owner is quite different from a dog barking every morning because the owner just cba to wait by the door to let it in

Report
ElderlyKoreanLady · 12/01/2016 23:40

Nobody on your street ever makes any noise as loud as a dog bark without getting permission from anyone who might hear it bourdic? Though I admit I'd love to live there, I do profess some disbelief.

Report
SnuffleGruntSnorter · 12/01/2016 23:41

But my dog is still impacting on my (absolutely lovely) neighbours. I thought that was the problem?

My neighbours toddler would wake me (if I wasn't already up) as about 6.30 each morning it seems to have some kind of hyper singing activity. And the baby often screams for good measure. They didn't have to have kids so presumably following some of the logic on this thread I should assume they are lazy parents who shouldn't inflict their choices on their neighbours. Another neighbour starts his large diesel van about 6am, selfish bastard to have a job he enjoys, at the least he should park by the fields 15minutes walk away as he's inflicting his life choice to work in the building industry on his neighbours. Not to mention the neighbours who chose to have older teens, and inflict their taxi noise after the clubs close on their neighbours.

That does it, I'm going to call it them unreasonable on an online forum, that'll show them. Oh, actually I seem to live on a residential street and be in possession of a grip so perhaps I'll just accept it as normal neighbourhood noise and move on with my life.

Mine barks. Not constantly but he will give a woof or too. My neighbour has a ridiculous car exhaust. He's literally just pulled up. It's nearly midnight. Swings and roundabouts.

Leave my door open? It's cold. No chance! YABU

I'd say you're NBU

My neighbour asked if we could stop out dog barking, well we can't but what we do is let her out for a bark & wee before 10.30pm. If it's later she's goes in the front garden & doesn't bark.

We don't get up before 7am & she doesn't bark first thing !

It's all about being considerate. FWIW we alway wait by the door as dog is out there for a very short time. She also knows to tap once on the door...perfect pet
