To be anxious about having a amalgam filling put in and just leave it

I have searched, but the threads were from 2008-10 mainly and nothing in the last three years.

I had a filling come out about 10 years ago. I go yearly every couple of the years to see the dentist and they have always said its fine and up to me if I want it replaced.

I've always said just leave it. However I am getting increasingly annoyed about having to dig food out of there every time I eat (rasberrys or air dried beetroot crisps are the worst).

So I've bit the bullet and asked them to repair it, however they've said as its a back tooth it will have to be grey filling.

I'm probably being paranoid, but should I be concerned about this? I'm tempted to just leave it as even psychosomatically it may make me unwell

My dentist left my tooth unfilled. The whole front of the tooth cracked away after I'd forgotten not to eat on that side, meaning I now have to have a crown - in gold I'd have the filling done.

Is that not a stealth boast, everyone else and their gold teeth mine will be silver

I've survived 40 years with a couple of amalgam fillings too (I'm 50). Most people don't look that far into my mouth but my 'black' teeth were a salutary lesson for DC as to what happens if you don't brush your teeth properly!!

I had a white filling in my lower back tooth a few weeks ago. It was a large hole too, as I put it off for a year(!) My Dentist did want me to have a silver one but I refused (I have chronic health issues and don't want that in my body), so he agreed to use the composite.

He did say that It probably won't last as long, but what will be will be..

If it's really important to you, then maybe seek another dentist.
