To get really annoyed at supermarkets

who still require a coin to get a trolley? I mean, who steals trolleys nowadays?

Does my nut in. Many supermarkets don't have this outdated practice anymore and so often I don't have any coins on me.

What's been said above. I'll gladly put up with taking a pound with me for the trolley because it means I don't come back to find my car surrounded by trollies or fight my way through them on the walkway because loads of annoying lazy turds can't be bothered to push it a few yards to a trolley bay. That winds me up far more than keeping a pound coin in the car.

Another instance of "If I haven't seen it, it doesn't exist" from Brightside.

Of course people still steal trollies. It's a nuisance having to faff with a trolley token but it does a) reduce theft and b) makes customers tidy trollies away instead of dumping them to blow around the car park. I don't let it stop me shopping somewhere, though, I'm much more concerned about shopping somewhere that offers good quality and affordable prices for my groceries. Call me crazy.

I notice he didn't tell us whether he returns his trolley to the designated trolley bays.

Work have advertising trolley coins so I have a few in my car etc. My sister got me one with my name on before!! It's was £1.

The waitrose near me employs someone to walk around the local area collecting trolleys that have been taken home. It's on a large shopping precinct in the middle of a large housing estate. For as long as I can remember the alleyway opposite my grandmas house has alway had waitrose trolleys in it. It's about a three minute walk from the store. My nan has one of their lovely tartan shopping trolleys that old ladies use but I guess they aren't as cool as wheeling home your own trolley!
I only ever did it once when I lived across the road from the store but actually it was a pain and not as easy as you think it is. Even the dropped kerbs it's really difficult to bounce a full trolley up them.

The Iceland near waitrose you can't even take the trolley out of the store as it has a big pole on it that's taller than the door opening.

My local Sainsbury's doesn't charge for trollies and it's chaos. There are always trollies rolling around the car park, and people just dump them next to the taxi rank once they've loaded up their shopping. Despite having those anti-theft grates, the trollies do end up being nicked and dumped in residential streets. They're also constantly running out of the little trollies which is very annoying.

find a space that isn't disabled (fair), parent and children (not);

I seem to hear a sound as of flamethrowers being warmed up for action . . .

I don't always have enough money to put a £1 in the trolley. I end up struggling with 2 baskets.

WorraLiberty · 10/01/2016 18:45

That's another good reason why the keyring tokens are good cleaty

You can buy one when you have a bit more money, but you can never spend it by accident.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/01/2016 18:57

If people weren't too lazy to put their trolley back in a safe place, they wouldn't be necessary.

There is also the (probably lesser) issue of them being stolen or borrowed and not returned by people walking home with a trolley full of shopping (I used to do this BTW but I always took my trolley back the same day.

Get a trolley token keyring if holding onto a pound coin is inconvenient.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/01/2016 18:58

One of the many reasons why Waitrose is more expensive than Aldi is that they employ trolley collectors.

ppeatfruit · 11/01/2016 11:28

Yes you get what you pay for Barbarao

Having the £1 encourages people to return them to the bays, rather than discarding them in the middle of the car park.
