Urgent asthma run out of inhaler advice needed

My DS 9 has finally been diagnosed with asthma and his dark brown preventative inhaler ran out last night and i don't have another.
We get them on repeat prescription so he doesn't run out but last time I was only given the blue one. We have 3 of those , stupid of me not to notice it was another blue one.
We are new to all this and I know how important it is that he doesn't miss any doses . Gp not open till tomorrow then a 48 hour wait for new prescription.
Any advice how to get one quickly ?

It is a spray and so often feels like it i has run out and when you press it, nothing comes out Because the nozzle is blocked, not because it is empty.

Lavender The cannister jams and it sounds like it's run out. Washing it can clear the jam.

There's a crackdown on asthma in my area, the pharmacy wouldn't give me a blue inhaler a few weekends ago because they weren't allowed. They gave me all my other meds, some of which are a lot more controlled.

It was especially stupid because I only needed it as I had a bad lung infection. By the time the doctors was open again after all the bank holidays/weekends, I'd been to hospital twice to use a respirator and the infection had lifted, so they wouldn't prescribe anything for my "dormant" asthma anyway.

Ahhh I see! Thanks!

The nurse at the GP worked out the dishes and when we would need them . Then electronically sent them to boots. I think the brown one should have been in the pack alongside the blue one. I didn't check it thoroughly as we already had 2 new boxed blue ones. My fault for not checking.
Won't make that mistake again. I will ask for two tomorrow at GP

Ask for two this time, then get your renewal when the first one is about to run out. Our GP has always been happy for us to have a spare as a back-up as you never know when a situation is going to arise that means you need to get hold of a new inhaler quickly.

I always write the date we started the new inhaler on it with a Sharpy pen. Could then work out your reorder date and put that on it as well.

You can get apps which help to keep track of the amount left. I use inhaler counter app to make sure I know how much DS has left- my inhaler has a counter on the side which is really helpful.

A shame boots couldn't help, I don't know if they can issue brown inhalers but one night should be ok and the GP can issue over the phone first thing - I do this a lot and it saves a trip out and takes less time for the GP. I'm terrible at treating my asthma and now DD2 has inhalers it makes it worse - DH took my blue inhaler and I didn't realise so left without it already feeling wheezy. Luckily boots issued one as an emergency but maybe it was because I had symptoms then and there. Because it was London I also had the option of a 2hr delivery via super drug and there are other places that issue them or deliver for a fee without prescription.

Blue is ventolin, green is the salm etc
Ithought only the pharmacy who did repeats could issue emergencies or has it changed? I know some things have changed for what they can give you in emergencies as i found out the other week when i couldn't get my medication!
I know the blue can be given gor an emergency, but not sure about others, but im on the repeat service.
Ive missed my brown and green lots but I'm fine (wheezy!) as long as i have my blue with me at all times.

CalmYoBadSelf · 11/01/2016 02:01

I would also doublecheck with your surgery if the brown one was on your last prescription as I have known some pharmacies make a profit by "accidentally" missing items off

All pharmacists have the power by law to make an emergency supply as long as certain conditions are met but, sadly, many pharmacists no longer do this professional service so they tend to send people on to walk-in centres, etc. If Boots had done this though they would have had to charge you the full cost of the inhaler as it is not covered by an NHS prescription

Hope your son is ok
