Apologies if this is is/has been discussed elsewhere; I expected there to be a thread already but I can't find anything ...

LK is the BBC's political editor, but shows no sign of being fair, impartial or balanced in her reporting. She seems to have a passionate, unchecked loathing of Jeremy Corbyn/the Labour Party - an obsession almost - and is making the BBC News unwatchable for everyone in our house - even the kids have picked up on her twitching, sour face when she's reporting on anything Corbyn-related! Surely this revelation about her part in engineering for Stephen Doughty to resign live on Daily Politics crosses a line where the new isn't being reported it's being manipulated and spun for entertainment/propaganda and she is a delighted participant who is failing to report in the public interest?

RubbishRobot if the BBC is to the left then why hasnt there been any reports on the Housing Bill

I think both 'sides' could site things that haven't been reported tbf

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 08/01/2016 17:28

I didn't say the BBC were left or right Helena

DadKeepsCalm1 · 08/01/2016 17:28

Personally I think the Bbc is biased against the right. I feel that it's run by the out of touch Islington elites.

Behooven · 08/01/2016 17:28
  • perplexing how the right accuse the BBC of being too lefty and the lefties are convinced there's an anti-Corbyn plot going on. It can't be simultaneously biased in both directions.

The way Corbynites are being outraged about media bias everywhere and demanding the sacking of any journalist who's not actively on their side reminds me a lot of Scottish independence supporters. It's a strange determination to be victims of some establishment plan against them.*

I agree with you Robot ^^

iwantbrewstersmillions · 08/01/2016 17:30

To understand bias watch question time and it's any Tory agenda.

There is no agenda about labour but their rightful questions being asked about the mess they are.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 08/01/2016 17:35

Yes, people looking for grievances can generally find them and convince others they exist...

VertigoNun · 08/01/2016 17:36

Yes, she can't overcome the challenge of impartiality. It is a shame as she presents in a way I follow easily.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 08/01/2016 17:36

There are loads of 'characterful' male tv reporters, I suspect the fuss is mostly because she is a fairly young woman who clearly has opinions and doesn't simper.

I like her, I love a bit of personality

hefzi · 08/01/2016 17:41

^^This. Bit like the country, really Hmm

\link{http://stopwar.org.uk/index.php/news/naked-bbc-bias-on-comical-display-in-jeremy-corbyn-interview\this is worth a read}

Granted it's from Stop the War so has an agenda, but I saw plenty of other similar criticisms at the time, & I think there was a similar interview over the "shoot to kill" thing? She asks leading questions, doesn't ask logical follow-up questions, just cuts him off when he's said what she was trying to get him to say.

I think Nick Robinson's despair at the present lack of impartiality speaks for itself, & he is a recognised Conservative

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 08/01/2016 17:42

Nick Robinson was as bad.

Shutthatdoor · 08/01/2016 17:43

Granted it's from Stop the War so has an agenda

You'really not kidding Hmm

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 08/01/2016 17:44

I am not a massive fan of LK, but I don't think she's particularly biased against Corbyn.

I do think he's a bit of a shower though - or the people around him are and he's too weak to stop them. For all their 'new politics' it's all briefing and spin. The tampon tax fucked me right off with him for a start.

QuiteIrregular · 08/01/2016 17:46

'That troll'...' She slept with'. Could we cool it with the sexism and keep it on the politics?

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 08/01/2016 17:47

ffs more JC supporters moaning that he is getting unfair negative reporting. the vast majority of our media leans to the right this is nothing new but the BBC does not

Tony Blair understood this JC does but he does not want to play along, it is not about honest politics' it is recognising politics has moved on from the 70's media/news is 24 hours and you need to promote yourself, your party as a party that is a credible opposition something Jeremy is not even trying to do

Shutthatdoor · 08/01/2016 17:47

*you're not

JugglingFromHereToThere · 08/01/2016 17:49

I think it's a shame as previously I've liked her reporting. She seems bright and I think explains things well.
On the other hand I think it's a tragedy that our media is so biased - I've always been a leftie myself - either Labour or Green supporter

BathtimeFunkster · 08/01/2016 17:51

Well the left say she is to right wing and right say she is to left wing ergo she must be doing something right.

Hmm

No, no, no.

This is the kind of complacent shit the BBC comes out with to justify crappy journalism.

You can show bias in your reporting that is not necessarily a left or right wing bias.

Lots of people complaining about your reporting being biased for different reasons is no proof you are unbiased.

Of course, nor is it proof you are. They might just have an agenda of their own.

Mistigri · 08/01/2016 17:53

Why is it assumed that anyone who thinks that a reporter is biased is automatically a Labour supporter?

I know nothing about LK's politics, but the way she reported the reshuffle she could easily be a Blairite not a Tory ... This isn't necessarily a left/ right issue.

It's just bizarre to focus so much on a shadow cabinet that isn't in power, isn't about to be in power, and which she obviously thinks is never going to be in power ... While practically ignoring other political issues that I think it's fair to assume her audience generally are more interested in, like the debate over flood defences, Hunt versus the junior doctors, and the housing bill.

Goingtobeawesome · 08/01/2016 17:54

I can't stand her. She uses 60 words when 12 would do, she talks over the person she is meant to be interviewing and doesn't let them answer. She's under the illusion she's something special. She isn't.

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 08/01/2016 17:54

You can show bias in your reporting that is not necessarily a left or right wing bias.

Indeed you can. But if both major sides are complaining you are biased against them, it is unlikely you are biased in favour of either.

NewLife4Me · 08/01/2016 17:55

YABU as she is told to say what she does in the way she does.
It's the corporation that needs sorting for impartiality, not the employees.

FinestGrundyTurkey · 08/01/2016 18:03

If the BBC didn't do anything wrong, why was the blog detailing the timing of the live on-screen resignation deleted?

they had the information by 10am. they could have released it as breaking news then. they deliberately waited until just before PMQ, & somehow Cameron received the information in time to use it, but Corbyn didn't?

\link{http://hitchensblog.mailonsunday.co.uk/2016/01/letting-rip-against-all-this-reshuffle-garbage.html\even Peter Hitchens is up to here with the media bias & briefing against Corbyn by his own MPs; he certainly has no pro-Corbyn agenda}

SisterConcepta · 08/01/2016 18:16

Completely agree OP.
Said exactly that to dh yesterday about how it's so obvious that she detests Corbyn. I'm finding her very grating.

fidel1ne · 08/01/2016 18:16

Channel 4 news is superior to everything else. Even more so as everything else deteriorates.
