To be a little bit sad my line manager hasn't said goodbye?

I've just left my employer of 8 years so it's quite a big life change, and a "bye" would have been nice.

Surely it's just basic etiquette to say "goodbye & good luck" to a colleague when you process their resignation?

When I left my last job after eight years I got a few goodbyes off my co workers but that was it. I bought a nice card to say I'd enjoyed working there and a tin of chocolates. While clearing my locker in disbelief that I hadn't had a decent goodbye off anyone I left the card and took the chocolates home with me!

This is why I like to keep work and home life separate. Most work 'friendships' only exist because of the fact you are thrown together with people, and although I like my colleagues, I wouldn't choose to socialise with them day to day. Office Xmas parties etc are so terribly forced IMO. I once worked with someone who slated me for not attending one year. I had worked with her for 12 years yet I bet she couldn't tell you my husband's name.
Having said that, a polite goodbye and a parting gift is simple manners and appreciation of a job well done.

My boss ignored my leaving too. I got a cobbled together present he made a shite speech because he had to. Then just before my finish time he fucked off and I had no goodbye or good luck from him. I hated the bastard anyway as he bullied me out of my job.
