A friend of a friend was diagnosed with leukaemia a week before Christmas. She's only 24 years old Sad She needs a bone marrow transplant but this is proving difficult as mixed race donors are hard to find. Her only brother is not a match

Please, please sign up. They will only contact you if you are a match

Message from the charity Delete Blood Cancer;

We’re holding two donor recruitment events in London on Sunday, so please come along and register as a potential blood stem cell donor if you're in London and haven’t already.

Please also encourage your friends, family and colleagues who are in London on Sunday to register. We need people to register to help find a match for Lara and all those in need of a blood stem cell donation.

It’ll only take a few minutes of your time but it could lead to you giving decades to someone else

You can come and register:

- from 9am to 3pm at the Parish Centre, 4 Thirleby Road, Burnt Oak, Edgware HA8 0HQ

- from 10am to 3pm at the Jewish Museum, 129-131 Albert Street, NW1 7NB

If you can't make it to either of the events, you can register online at www.deletebloodcancer.org.uk

Bump again...

Iwantakitchen · 02/02/2016 20:59

Bump from me. I am already registered, give blood regularly and on donor list for bone marrow. Hope other mumsnetters will join

Jemimapuddleduk · 02/02/2016 21:09

Bump from me.
I am already registered on Anthony Nolan and I started a similar thread a week or so ago. My baby boy has just started chemo for acute myeloid leukaemia and may need a bone marrow transplant. We found out yesterday that his sister is a match. In our bid to raise awareness over 25 of our friends and family have signed up to either Anthony Nolan or delete blood cancer. I hope Lara finds a match, I have been following her story.

Chippednailvarnish · 02/02/2016 21:13

Good luck Jemima

Jemimapuddleduk · 02/02/2016 21:18

Thank you chipped.

IPlayPingPong · 02/02/2016 21:37

Good luck Jemima - hope all goes ok for your baby Flowers

HungryHorace · 02/02/2016 21:50

I sent my swabs off to Delete Blood Cancer last week.

ThomasRichard · 02/02/2016 21:53

Jemima as a result of your thread I signed up as a donor with Delete Blood Cancer. The swabs came through the post last week and I sent them back in the prepaid envelope the next day. I really had no idea it was so easy to sign up.

I'm glad your DD is a match. Very best wishes to you and your family Flowers

Jemimapuddleduk · 02/02/2016 21:58

Thank you so much ThomasRichard

GNRmama · 02/02/2016 22:01

I've signed up, I've no qualms about donating whatever I can when someone's life is at stake.

deadwitchproject · 02/02/2016 22:10

DH and I registered with Delete Blood Cancer last year. We're both in our 40s.

EmpressOfTheVulvaCupcakes · 02/02/2016 22:11

Just signed up with Delete Blood Cancer.

Standingoutsidethefire · 02/02/2016 22:19

I'm too old for the bone marrow register but did sign up for delete blood cancer (a charity which I had never heard of before this thread so thank you for making me aware).

Just to add if you are pregnant at certain hospitals you can donate blood from your umbilical cord which is seemly very valuable to them. I did last time and will again www.anthonynolan.org/8-ways-you-could-save-life/donate-your-umbilical-cord-blood

NoAdventureNoTime · 03/02/2016 16:57

I'm mixed race and am already on the list, which was simple to do. I feel if I would accept a transplant so I feel a moral duty to donate if I can. To the people up thread who said they would only donate to friends or family Confused
We are all friends and family of someone, or do you not think people exist outside your social sphere Confused
