DANGEROUS Yeo Valley yogurt pots

Hello everyone. Firstly let me introduce myself. My name is Denise, and I am a grandmother of three. I have registered with the site today, to warn parents of the hidden dangers of Yeo Valley yogurt pots. I use the word hidden, as after having contacted them about a serious cut to my grandsons tongue at Xmas, they wrote back and said they was aware of the situation with the sharp pots, but still have no intention of putting a warning on the packages. They then had the audacity to send me £2 in vouchers as a way of an apology! My 3 year old grandson simply licked the pot like children do. The problem is the extremely sharp plastic that's there once the pots are separated. This is clearly a case of putting profits before the welfare of their customers. SHAME ON YOU YEO VALLEY!

I did a version of Denise Denise and my cat loves Yeo valley yoghurt. I want yeokens too.

kelper · 08/01/2016 18:56

What on earth are Yeokens?!

originalmavis · 08/01/2016 19:05

I'm not exactly sure. You get then on their website and I assume they are like co-op stamps. Maybe I will get a free spork or summit?

shinynewusername · 08/01/2016 19:06

What on earth are Yeokens?!

Who cares? I want some!

originalmavis · 08/01/2016 19:08

Careful now, they might have sharp edges.

Esmeismyhero · 08/01/2016 19:12

I can't see the Facebook comments :(

littleleftie · 08/01/2016 19:13

Can we lick the yeokens?

mincebloodypie · 08/01/2016 19:13

Wise up, Denise

originalmavis · 08/01/2016 19:23

They are virtual. You'd need to lick your screen and if its like my phone there will beore than a million bacteria on it!

Noofly · 08/01/2016 19:23

Don't despair, I'm with you OP. Furthermore, I think every metal pole ought to have a sign on it warning about the dangers of licking it when it is below 0 degrees outside. I learned the hard way when I was about 5 and decided to lick one of our laundry poles in our back garden on a snowy day. Had there been such a warning, I would not have discovered the agony of ripping my tongue off the frozen pole. Blush

Though I suppose we'd also have to start teaching children to read by 3, but you know, there should have been some protective measure in place!!

Just me? Grin Blush Grin Blush

This threads makes me so happy. It's gonna be a good weekend, I can feel it in my bones.

ShowYourSeams · 08/01/2016 19:40

I burnt my tongue on my Costa yesterday even though they have a warning on the cup that the contents will be hot.

Clearly idiot proofing warnings don't work anyway. Grin

shinynewusername · 08/01/2016 19:46

As my engineer friend says, "If you make something idiot-proof, they'll build a better idiot".

Doublebubblebubble · 08/01/2016 19:48

show I ALWAYS do that!...

Pipbin · 08/01/2016 19:50

I have just eat a Yeo Valley yoghurt. I licked the outside of the pot and my cat licked the inside. Neither of us have cut tongues.

YeoValleyDanger · 08/01/2016 19:51

Well I feel sorry for the OP. I'm sure if Yeo Valley had responded appropriately with a kitten in a basket holding a £50 voucher in its mouth then her grandson wouldn't have hurt his mouth for nothing.

You heartless people.

Wellysocksbox · 08/01/2016 19:55

We'll be seeing Denise and family in the Daily Mirror next WITH THE SAD FACE!!

HanSolo · 08/01/2016 20:00

Ooh- all you Northerners, tempting me with your talk of longley farm produce

True story: it was a boy in my school that was the victim of the botulism outbreak that meant they had to stop selling hazelnut yoghurts. He nearly died, poor boy (he was really nice).

ouryve · 08/01/2016 20:09

You can still get the Hazelnut one. DS2 is a fan of the rhubarb, though. That's one's properly tart and licking the lid makes my eyelids twitch. Uber-fussy beige food boy loves it, though, bizarrely.

DS1 would have all yogurts banned. He is quite disgusted by them.

liz70 · 08/01/2016 20:14

Don't take any of this to heart, OP. I'm sure most people are just yeoking around.

kelper · 08/01/2016 20:17

Why is is specifically hazelnut that gives you botulism though
Or is it like Brazil nut shells that have poison in them?

HanSolo · 08/01/2016 20:21

Kelper- apparently it was a batch of hazelnut puree that was infected, which was then used in yoghurt.

liz70 · 08/01/2016 20:22

" a kitten in a basket holding a £50 voucher in its mouth"

Nooo! Don't you realise poor Kitty could chew said voucher, then all the bits of gooey paper would coaguwhatever in its tummy and kill it? Poor pussy. Sad

Asskicker · 08/01/2016 20:23

I have decided I am buying some of these yoghurts tomorrow, to see for myself!

And some longley farm cottage cheese! Love that stuff

shinynewusername · 08/01/2016 20:23

It wasn't the hazelnuts per se. It was the fact that the fact that the flavouring - which happened to be hazelnuts - which contained sweetener was prepared and stored for weeks before being added to the yoghurt. It acted like a petri dish to culture the botulism. The same could have happened with any sweetened flavouring but would be less likely in practice with a fruit one as it would probably have gone mouldy before the botulism had a chance to grow.
