To ask to pop home? Forgot tablets

cjt110 · 08/01/2016 10:52

Just realised I've forgot my thyroxine medicine this morning. Already feeling exhausted. WIBU to ask if I could pop home to take it? I only live 10 mins away.

OP said reasonable boss has already said 'go home and get it', and hopefully has done so.

might be worth keeping a backup pack in handbag/office drawer.

cjt110 · 08/01/2016 12:09

I keep some other tablets in my make up bag specialsubject and wish I had the foresight to have put those in too! I will definitely be ferreting some into it as back up!

DinoSnores · 08/01/2016 12:14

special, but there is no need for the OP to go home. That was the point that several of us are making!

specialsubject · 08/01/2016 12:50

ok, OP won't die horribly without them. But she actually has an understanding boss who lets her do something really quick and easy to remove stress.

can we cope with the concept?

beefthief · 08/01/2016 13:00

You're an adult, nobody owns you. If you need the meds, tell your boss you're going to get them.

Sorry, I know the thread is pretty much done and dusted, it just occurred to me OP, that if you start to feel exhausted before 11am, it might be that you are under-medicated in general? Maybe ask your GP if you could go up to the next level and see if you feel better?

cjt110 · 13/01/2016 10:50

Hi SpecialistSnowflake Thanks for he suggestion. Sadly, I appear to be one o those who need an inbetween dose. 75mg is too much and perhaps 50mg isnt enough

OP posts:
EssentialHummus · 13/01/2016 10:58

Possibly alternate one with the other / ask Doc? I am the same.

CarShare · 13/01/2016 10:59

After checking with the gp (you might need bloods taking) you could potentially alternate daily doses, so 75mcg one day and then 50mcg next to hit the mid point dosage wise overall. This is quite common in levothyroxine prescribing (like Sharon, I'm a pharmacist).

Jibberjabberjooo · 13/01/2016 11:04

I've alternated my dose before in exactly the same way.

I always leave half an hour before I eat something after taking my tablets.

Samantha28 · 13/01/2016 11:04

Yes, I take a different dose every second day. It seems to be working well .

If you are usually exhausted at 11am, it's not because you've missed one days meds. You need to go back to your doctor .

cjt110 · 13/01/2016 11:05

CareShare I had always wondered if this was possible. Thanks for the prompt Snowflake I have asked my GP to do a bloodcard for me to check my thyroid and also my Vit D levels as these were very low last time and I have been taking high dose Vit D for approx 2 months now.

Essential Do you alternate your tablets then?

Jibber I usually take my tablets and have a cuppa but I dont eat until about an hour or so afterwards.

Essential Do you alternate your tablets then?

I did, have since gone up. (It worked at the time, though.) You lucky lot will get a thread next week with exciting blood test results Grin

ThornyBird · 13/01/2016 13:26

I take mine in the evening at the moment after seeing it suggested - at bedtime with antihistamines. Should I go back to mornings? (Would still be with antihistamines though - I'm on 4 doses per day Confused)

Samantha28 · 13/01/2016 14:34

If you are taking a lot of vitamin D, I think they like to do regular checks on your calcium as well

< disclaimer - I'm not a HCP>

lazyarse123 · 13/01/2016 21:55

I take thyroxine, always take first thing, i didn't realise it was milk that was the problem so does that mean i should have my coffee black. Also i only notice symptoms coming back after missing about four doses (only happened twice as ran out over holiday period). This thyroid thing really messes with my memory.

Samantha28 · 13/01/2016 22:25

Nah, it's have kids that messes with your memory . And your sanity Wink

lazyarse123 · 14/01/2016 05:07

SAMANTHA28 You're right there.

JonSnowKnowsNowt · 14/01/2016 05:26

Could u have coeliac disease? There is a higher risk if u already have another auto immune disease like thyroid prone. Low got dcold be mall absorption from coeliac and ditto exhaustion

JonSnowKnowsNowt · 14/01/2016 05:29

Sorry but n phone .

Low vitamin D could be malansorption

cjt110 · 15/01/2016 11:24

Thanks for the suggestion Jon They did test me for this a while back but no. Not that.

Think Samantha is right - its just my son lol.

I have asked the GP to do a bloocard for me. They said they dont need to check my vitamin D levels because Im taking supplements (which did baffle me but hey ho).

OP posts:
JonSnowKnowsNowt · 15/01/2016 14:13

glad to hear you had a coeliac test, OP. They can produce false negatives, (if you look at the coeliac UK website you can get more information on this) so it is worth considering if that could be the case.

also - increasing evidence for 'non-coeliac gluten sensitivity' where someone has similar symptoms to coeliac but without the antibody production that tests look for. I have one coeliac child and one who had the same symptoms but tested negative. After going gluten-free, the non-coeliac one's symptoms also disappeared. Paediatrician said that possibly the second child is coeliac but had only just become coeliac (i.e. we caught it before enough antibody production to show up in tests. Or, they may have NCGS. Either way, DC2 is fit and healthy on a gluten-free diet, and the vitamin/iron/etc. deficiencies he had have all corrected themselves now.
