The White Company do not have confidence in their convictions

Their merchandise is not white!

Not even their newborn stuff!

And their girls range is the same old same old pastel pink glitter vomit.

Why even call yourselves 'the White Company' if you don't think white is marketable?!?

The white company in bath smells lovely of whatever candle they're promoting - I don't work there by the way.

whirlybird42 · 07/01/2016 21:40

I've got several work dresses from white company. They are lovely in their simplicity. They are charcoal, black, navy, silver and a lovely smokey blue grey. I really wouldn't want one in white.

I think I'm missing the point of this thread. Confused

Chippednailvarnish · 07/01/2016 21:41

Don't like it, don't buy it.

Needfinsnow · 07/01/2016 21:43

I love White company clothes and Bedlinen for my dd. Who cares it's not white! "White stuff "clothes aren't white, "top shop" aren't all tops, "mothercare" sell more than things which care for mothers. "Fat face" sell clothes for people without a fat face (do I need to go on??) it's a brand name....not a description!

Lurleene · 07/01/2016 21:43

You'd better keep away from White Stuff then, it's a positive riot of colour in there. Smile

HanSolo · 07/01/2016 21:46

They used to do a lot more neutral children things- bedding, pjs etc, but the last 6 years or so it's been the typical UK high street dichotomy crap for children.

Stirling84 · 07/01/2016 21:47

Like I said - when I come bounding in with money burning a hole in my pocket wanting weeny little vest and sleepsuits without any naff clip-art... I end up at Tesco.

My local White Company branch literally had nothing plain white in children's wear.

'White stuff' is surf and snow! I find them perfectly in line with what I perceive to be their brand values.

And the 'face' in 'Fat Face' is the face of a mountain.

My two girls are 18 and 22 and I still wouldn't trust them to keep an all white outfit clean Grin
They loved their glittery pink shit when they were little, but they e grown up to go to uni and have good jobs so it's not all bad.

Stirling84 · 07/01/2016 21:58

I'm not anti pink and glitter.

I just don't see the point of styling yourself as 'The White Company' when they actually mean 'Boden without the hotchpotch patterns'.

Slightly off topic - but my local branch refused to let my little girl to use their staff loo when she was just potty trained....so of course the poor little love ended up just 'letting it go' all over the floor. Always think of that now whenever I go in there, rather than their rather serene, lifestyle marketing pitch!

Stirling84 · 07/01/2016 22:02

Could they not reserve 'The White Company' to be the place where you get the perfect white Tshirt; perfect white sleepsuit; perfect white towel; perfect white candle.

Nothing stopping them running 'tasteful neutrals with a vintage vibe' as a separate company.

Christ.
What a thing to get pissed off at.

OohMavis · 07/01/2016 22:12

I don't see why you're so irate. You found what you wanted at Tesco for 2000% cheaper.

Tirfarthoin · 07/01/2016 22:12

I have also fallen out with TWC their jeans fall apart and their jumpers bobble.

TSSDNCOP · 07/01/2016 22:12

The Bluewater and Bromley stores are blinding in their whiteness. The neutral palette stuff breaks it up nicely. The kids stuff is gorgeous. DS had pure white sleeping bags as a baby. He's got one of the white robes with stars on now. Everything washes beautifully. The candles scent the room even when unlit.

I do not work for WC Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 07/01/2016 22:15

The one here smells really horrible too, belinda - it's obviously a candle, but it absolutely reeks. I love the Winter fragrance stuff so it's not that.

Stirling84 · 07/01/2016 22:39

snurk @ Natalia . Wasn't so white after that - fnar fnar .

ManneryTowers · 07/01/2016 22:49

I don't work for TWC either but I shop there for DS's and DN's pyjamas as the sizes seem to last for ages. I think out of about six sets, all had a white background to a simple pattern, or were pure white. Just got DS the blue snuggle robe too. It's not white but he's so gorgeous in it I don't care!

Dungandbother · 07/01/2016 22:55

I don't find the quality worth the ££££

Doesn't wash well
Thins out quickly
Doesn't last
Tears easily

I have my Nanna's Egyptian cotton sheets. Think they came from a catalogue, Cotswold or similar million times better.

As are Sheridan and Christy.

Stirling84 · 07/01/2016 23:20

dung

That's what I mean.

Before I could afford to shop there (or maybe just many years ago - as per hansolo ) - I imagined that it was all about the fabric.

I thought they'd buy a really good cotton and use it to make lots of things. Or a great waffle fabric; or the best towelling fabric; or amazing chunky knitting wool. I supposed that since all the things were white they could bulk buy the fabric without wastage.

I'm disappointed that it's no different to any other high street shop.

And in many cases WORSE!

BikeRunSki · 08/01/2016 06:57

When The White Company started, it did sell only white homewares, mostly sheets and towels. My mother still has sheets she bought in a sale in Fulham Road in about 1995 and they look almost new.

They've expanded their collection since they've started, that's all. A wee Google brings up:

'The White Company was born in 1993 by Chrissie Rucker when she couldn't find a comprehensive collection of white products with which to decorate her home. Offering affordable luxury homewares with essentials for the linen cupboard at the heart of the product range, which now extends to include furniture, luxurious bathroom accessories and home fragrance. A fashion collection now joins The White Company's homeware collections, in a complimentary neutral colour palette of slate, navy and white that provides easy-wear everyday style-solutions.'
