To think there's just no need for nudist beaches?

A bit of background. I live in South Australia and there are some very beautiful beaches here. One of them is a legal nude beach...by legal I mean it's not just "become" nude over time, but it had a State law passed...to ensure that people could go there and be clothes free.

Now in essence I agree that there probably should be a place where people can enjoy being naked for a while...the human body is a great thing...BUT this beach is full of perverts.

No families go there and only a very, very few women. The men are all middle aged and older and it most is men.

When women do go there, men will blatantly wank in front of them or stare...not ALL the men but some. Others hide in the bushes, wanking and taking pictures.

I think this beach should be reclaimed for the general populace.

House prices in the area are low because who wants that as their local beach?

They have a yearly "nude games" and this year the council have stated that all children attending must have their genitals covered....they said this due to complaints from the public...the nudists have said they will agree to the new rule but they don't "condone it".

Why? And why have the council said this about children being nude if they REALLY think it's all harmless fun?

Why should a nudist beach need to do anything other than rely on Police help. I assume they pay taxes. If someone was wanking on any other beach they would be arrested.

Perhaps the answer is to make all beaches clothing optional.

TheHouseOnTheLane · 06/01/2016 09:08

Cdtay as I said above, it doesn't seem to be policed even by those who use it. They overlook it or get involved...again, it's a popular dogging spot and I think many of them are actual doggers. Sure there are probably some genuine nudists but the place is seedy....you wouldn't go near it after dark....or during the day in fact.

I'd love to swim in the sea naked. Must be amazing. But women can't walk down the street clothed without harassment so I think unless the beach was gated and closely monitored it wouldn't work. Sad

fidel1ne · 06/01/2016 09:15

I get the impression the whole community of nudists here is a bit pervy

Yeuch.

I suppose a good proportion of professed nudists always were doggers and voyeurs in disguise as 'health and efficiency' types. Is that not a national association of nudists who can withdraw their group membership or something? Smile

We go to naked and partially naked beaches in Greece and it's fine. Mostly older German (heterosexual) couples revelling in life with grown up children, I think. All deeply uncool and un-showy-offy.

Lots of families, naked children and parents, and clothed children and parents, older couples, groups of friends of all ages, about 50% of whom are naked.

Apart from 4yo dd piping up "Mummy, why does that man have jewellery in his bits?" (an extraordinary number of older German men have nether adornments for some reason?) and a few "DADDY!!! THAT MAN HAS BITS JUST LIKE YOU!" exclamations on the first day, we've never had any difficulty bringing children there, and NEVER any suggestion of untoward behaviour.

There was one day that a really buff, trendy young gay couple came to the beach, cheerfully stripped off and then were visibly horrified to notice that the thrilling, daring nudist beach of their dreams was actually mostly populated by well-padded, straight Germans in their late sixties, doing sudoku.

Swimming naked is nice.

icanteven · 06/01/2016 09:20

(by "extraordinary number" I suppose I mean "any", as I always, in my sheltered existence, thought that genital piercings were the domain of the young, but I guess how would you know?)

batshitlady · 06/01/2016 09:22

I'm quite serious. It's like anything well intentioned that gets abused by the few that ruin it for the majority. It needs policing in some form. If not then the question is to ban or not to ban.

As WhoTheFuck said, random police crackdowns on 'those tugging themselves off in the bushes' or whilst ogling others, will almost certainly have the effect of deterring such miscreants. Perhaps your residents committee needs to pressure your local authority to do more?

OnlyLovers · 06/01/2016 09:39

The problem isn't about it being a nudist beach, it's about it being a wanking and pick-up beach (for want of a better expression!)

Yes it should be policed, but so should any beach, and inappropriate behaviour should be cracked down on whether people are wearing cozzies or not.

well-padded, straight Germans in their late sixties, doing sudoku. I love that image. Grin

chrome100 · 06/01/2016 09:41

I was all ready to say YABU, nothing wrong with a bit of flesh but that is terrible!

MercedesDR · 06/01/2016 09:56

I have been in nudist clubs and on beaches. Beaches are magnets for wankers. I would not consider taking young kids on a naturist beach, although I might take older children to an reputable club - if they wished to go that is. Many clubs ban single men, which is probably discrimination. But experience has taught organisers it is necessary.

I have also posed for Spencer Tunick (google him) and have never seen anything untoward in his photo shoots. However, I have heard that it does happen. Get sexually excited and you will be asked to leave. Just to mention this artist does distance himself from naturism, although many people into this lifestyle do participate in his installations.

Asskicker · 06/01/2016 10:06

Dogging is common. It needs stopping if you ask me.

Yes it should. But it doesn't automatically follow that the nudist beach should be banned.

The behaviour of dogging, wanking etc should be dealt with like it would at any other beach.

TheMaddHugger · 06/01/2016 10:07

copy and paste
The 2006 Census by the Australian Bureau of Statistics counted 1,066 persons in XXXXXXXXXX on census night. Of these, 50.6% were male and 49.4% were female.[1]

It's been a nudist beach for as long as I've known it. back in the 70's.

No, i haven't seen it in person.

TheMaddHugger · 06/01/2016 10:08

Beach Nude Olympics are held annually, consisting of informal competitions such as three-legged races and the judging of "best bum".[11]

DeoGratias · 06/01/2016 10:13

We need more not fewer. Some of them are properly organised. We were on one in the Caribbean which had a female security guard to let you through. That probably stopped male pests.

I don't agree that nudist beach should be required to cover children up - that ridiculous. If men are being a problem then ban the men.

Nataleejah · 06/01/2016 10:54

Why can't there be nude Police patrolling
Grin sounds very... Interesting!

differentnameforthis · 06/01/2016 11:28

I know the one you mean, op!

But I wouldn't say that house prices are low there..they are certainly above the cost in my area & reflect beach side living.

I haven't heard that there is a problem with men openly wanking in front of women (Lived here 10yrs). There would be uproar if that were the case!

Taking pictures...that was a guy who was chased down by the decent people & dealt with some time ago. As far as I am aware, it isn't a constant den of wanking & leering.

differentnameforthis · 06/01/2016 11:37

Are there no other beaches you could go to instead. Do you need all the beaches, and the nudists need none There are 100s!!! South Australia is surrounded by them. I have countless just within 5 - 30 mins travelling distance. And I am that not far from the op!

My ILs have lived here almost 40yrs, and can't remember a time that it hasn't been a nudist beach. Honestly, unless OP is privvy to some secret info, yes there are issues, but it certainly isn't a constant ongoing thing.

And the kids being told to keep their clothes on - Jan 2013

Many of them aren't regulars and the area has a reputation for hook-ups and dogging. What the....since when??

Where are you getting your info, op?

TheMaddHugger · 06/01/2016 11:50

differentnameforthis

I've got the other nudist colony near us. the inland one in the Barossa

differentnameforthis · 06/01/2016 11:57

Actually, the clothes for kids WAS 2013, and on further digging it was kept in place for future games events.

I didn't know there was another one in SA, theMaddHugger

differentnameforthis · 06/01/2016 12:01

And issues aren't overlooked, or joined in with, the decent regulars absolutely DO deal with it, because they are fiercely protective of their space.

agapimou · 06/01/2016 12:39

I love nudist beaches. As a pp stated we have many in Greece that are the domain of middle aged Germans and offer a wonderfully relaxed, free-spirited atmosphere.

If a wanker ever were to venture onto the beach he would probably be tackled by the locals and hauled off to jail. Its not fair to blame nudism for encouraging this sort of behavior, wankers are everywhere and would be hiding in the bushes watching bikini-clad women if there was no other option.

My first experience of a nudist beach was on the (fucking amazing) island of Anafi. I had heard it was a naked island but we arrived at night and hiked to a small deserted beach in the dark and camped out for the night. In the morning we woke up for a naked swim and then sat bemused as hundreds of naked elderly Germans slowly emerged from caves, tents, trees and teepees and held a naked yoga session on the beach. It was in no way sexy, but was actually one of the most peaceful, spiritual moments of my life.

Roundles · 06/01/2016 14:43

Why are the police suddenly naked? Like every other public space, it should be policed and offenders dealt with.

Like when police crack down on a street known for binge drinking or what not. Clothed children lawn is bonkers though. This is a mental beach, perverts and peados? Seriously if I was in law enforcement id be down there everyday, my arrest rates would be through the roof!

expatinscotland · 06/01/2016 14:51

I've been to a few nudist beaches and in only one was there a wanker. It was before the days of mobiles full of cameras and recording equipment, though. Surely there are other beaches you can go to.

differentnameforthis · 07/01/2016 09:29

This is a mental beach, perverts and peados? Seriously if I was in law enforcement id be down there everyday, my arrest rates would be through the roof!

They don't need to be there everyday!

Adults were advised to keep their children clothed as a precaution not because something happened.

Since I have lived here I have heard of may three incidents of unwanted behaviour and they were dealt with by the other people who called the police.

I honestly do not recognise what the op has said about this beach & the local area!

Sallyingforth · 07/01/2016 10:27

I was brought up in a naturist family, and hate wearing anything on the beach. It just feels unnatural to have little parts of the body tied up with bits of cloth.

As has been mentioned here many times, it is not illegal to be naked on English beaches, unless it is done deliberately to offend. I have sunbathed naked on many beaches, and gone into the water to swim naked. It's a wonderful, liberating feeling. I avoid popular beaches at busy times, but that's mainly because I hate crowds.
I've seen one or two raised eyebrows but never a raised penis.
We've been to Studland a couple of times but it's a long way from here and I don't see why we should have to travel that far when there are nicer beaches much nearer.

Fortunately with people being used to continental beaches, it seems to be becoming more acceptable to be topless in the UK, and I hope that trend will continue.
