Dh has had an awful sciatica flare up since Boxing Day. I took him to the walk in centre on the Sunday and it took us fifteen minutes to get from the car to the surgery, that's how bad he was. He was prescribed a boat load of meds and told he was unlikely to be able to work until he was pain free as he sits at a desk.

So for the past however many days he's been hobbling around the house and occasionally whimpering in pain. He's on a heavy duty painkiller and anti inflammatory as well as diazepam.

He reckons he's going to work tomorrow. I've told him I think that's ridiculous and he is being pig headed. He says that because he can walk ok and drive (he drove to the shop today as a test) that he'll be fine to sit at a desk and type for 8hrs.

Please tell me I'm not being unreasonable here. I think if he rushes back to work he'll fuck his back up even more and end up with more time off.

I have bad back problems, tried physio, acupuncture, pain specialist etc. Apart from pain meds the one thing that actually helps is having regular massages.

Op I'm jealous that your dh was seen at the walk in centre and given meds. I waited (in tears) for four hours before being seen. I wasn't even examined or given anything for the pain. Just told if have to wait it out. That was in November. I've since bought this tens machine from Amazon. It's really helped. The pain is still horrid at times. This morning I cried in front of the kids through pure frustration. Ds told me that he feels like life is on hold at the moment due to my agony. :( He's only 11. I got an emergency appointment with the nurse last week. She could only prescribe Naproxen. I'm also on Tramadol. But been on them so long that I feel they don't work anymore. I'm too scared to stop taking them as I read that you shouldn't cold turkey on them.

For anyone on Facebook this Sciatica support group has been brilliant. So many helpful and sympathetic people.
