To think that Royal Mail are a sack of shit!

Tried to post a parcel today, only to be told that it would sit at the Post Office until Tuesday! No uplifts till then.

Recently sent a card special "guaranteed next day" delivery. It arrived 3 days later. That cost me £6.45. For a bloody card!

DSis posted my Christmas card on 16th Dec - it arrived AFTER Christmas.

I ordered a game on-line on 20th Dec - it's STILL not here (yep, Royal Mail are who it's been posted with).

Grrr.

I am still waiting for an Amazon package via Royal Mail which was dispatched on 17th Dec :( And I paid a delivery charge.

Andrewofgg · 31/12/2015 18:34

That's why I use the Lockers or local collect services for my Amazon purchases. And why I prefer to scan and email anything I can. I am fed up with RM.

ProfGrammaticus · 31/12/2015 18:42

Why don't people send cheques instead of cash? I know it's a pain going to the bank but you'll definitely get the money!

FloatIsRechargedNow · 31/12/2015 18:46

I really like this thing that they do most of the year which is delivering post actually to my house, using a well recognized slot through my door.
Some people can post me a letter from one end of the country one day and it can come directly to my house and I don't even have to get dressed or open the door to get it. And I don't have to pay a thing for this, although I need to pay less than a pound if I want to send a letter.
So it doesn't work perfectly sometimes, but I think the PO/Royal Mail are something that we would really miss if they weren't there any more.

Allyearcheer · 31/12/2015 18:53

Yabu. Royal Mail are far better than private delivery companies because Royal Mail actually give an arse whether or not you get the parcel. And if you aren't in to receive it you can get it sent to a local post office for pennies. Unlike private delivery companies who couldn't give one shit if you get the parcel or not and who expected me to pay for a half day journey to their 'local' delivery office to collect. These rip off parcel collection centres in shops, who seem to charge about a tenner to receive your parcel for you, didn't exist when all parcels were sent by Royal Mail because they weren't needed.

Allyearcheer · 31/12/2015 18:55

wiseup, I can't believe you complained because your parcel was delivered. You had to tip the bn on its side, so what?

manicinsomniac · 31/12/2015 19:12

Hit and Miss. I think most people have tales of both brilliant and terrible service.

I am very happy with both Royal Mail today.

I ordered a package from Singapore on 21st which arrived via Royal Mail today - they said 7-14 days but I thought it would be right on the 14 limit at least at this time of year.

Whatsername24 · 31/12/2015 19:54

We had a problem last year when the rounds changed and we got a new postman. We'd had the same postie since moving here in 2011 and he was great but the new one folded everything before putting it through the letterbox, even Christmas cards were folded, and he didn't fully push anything through so everything was left folded in the box and didn't have chance to flatten back out on the doormat. I complained, stating that the new postman was damaging the mail and said that we'd never had a problem with the old one. The delivery office manager said that it was because we'd had a new letterbox which made it difficult to push the mail through.
We hadn't had a new letterbox!! We have the same one which was newly fitted when we bought the house and is exactly the same as all of our neighbours (who were all having their mail folded too) - the only thing that was new was the postman!!

SexDrugsAndSausageRoll · 31/12/2015 20:04

I had an almost funny one- correctly addressed parcel returne to po as they were unable to locate my address. I live on an a road in a major city that is 150m long with six houses, we not even a fence from the road. One of the easiest houses to find ever!!!!

tillytown · 31/12/2015 20:38

I haven't had any post since the 22nd, I thought the RM were on holiday? Maybe my postman has won the lottery and run away

LetThereBeCupcakes · 31/12/2015 20:39

blue best of luck with the claim but don't hols you're breath. I recently had a very valuable item destroyed by royal mail. They refused to pay out even though I paid extra for insurance because "if it broke it must have been too fragile to post" Hmm

SpringtimeSun · 31/12/2015 20:53

Selloptape on cards......most obvious signs of money in cards there is!!!!

TinyTear · 31/12/2015 20:57

No card and parcel left behind plant pot.. So I did get it...

The other parcel my parents sent never arrived... Again no card so I assume they did the freaking plant pot again, so anyone could have stolen it...

bigbluebus · 31/12/2015 21:45

cupcakes I asked for a refund immediately when I rang to track the parcel - as their automated system just said it was "being processed". I was told they couldn't refund until the parcel had arrived. I pointed out they had already failed to deliver it on time so the refund was already due. Not aware that they pay more the longer it is missing - just the same £11 refund of postage. The attitude of the call centre staff member was not great though. She said what did it matter if it was a day late - it would get there. I pointed out that the whole reason it had been sent SD was because it was a perishable item so it actually did matter. The recipient tells me the product was fine when it arrived so can't really put in a compensation claim but will definitely have my extortionate postage back.
I know Hermes is much maligned on here but I ordered a pair of shoes from Clarks on the internet on the same Monday afternoon as I posted the RMSD parcel. The shoes arrived at 9.00am the following morning and I paid £6 delivery charge. And I know for a fact that Hermes were snowed under with parcels as the chap who delivers here is very chatty and tells me the volumes he's dealing with!

PhallicGiraffe · 01/01/2016 00:55

Err.. If your special doesn't arrive before 1pm the next day you can claim all the money back that it cost to send. And if it goes missing you can claim up to £500 compensation. Claim it back... NOW!
Also you should never send money by post... Unless it's special delivery. Royal Mail have always said don't do it. Stamped mail has only ever been for letters or cards, nothing more.

saraht84 · 01/01/2016 04:01

Giraffe unless that next day happens to be a Saturday and you haven't paid for Saturday Guarantee.

silversun · 01/01/2016 09:51

I've lost count of the number of Christmas cards with just a name and street or even just a town name on them this year!

kinkytoes · 01/01/2016 09:54

At least they give their staff time off over Christmas.

lifesalongsong · 01/01/2016 10:00

It must really depend on where you live, I never have any problems with Royal Mail, hermes or Yodel who are all regularly slated on here.

My postman is friendly, no on ever throws parcels over fences or puts them in bins, we even have one courier who carfully hides them in the garden.

You all need to move here

cathyandclaire · 01/01/2016 10:13

For us Royal Mail have been the best of all the delivery companies, the postie always makes a real effort and things I've sent have arrived reliably. DPD, Yodel and Hermes seem to be pretty good around here but Amazon logistics are an utter bloody shambles. They always 'attempt to deliver' mine three days in a row while I'm sitting waiting at home with no van in sight.

Lunawolf · 01/01/2016 10:39

I sent a parcel using Royal Mail in December, first class, cost me £4. To my surprise, it appeared in my porch 2 days later. They had looked at the very clearly written "sender" label on the back and sent it to me! Confused

Sallyingforth · 01/01/2016 10:48

It's a bloody cheek that they can still call themselves "Royal" Mail now they are a private company.
My pet hate is that letters come through the door stinking of stale cigarette smoke.

Hulababy · 01/01/2016 10:52

We've had some really good RM service this Christmas. Everything arriving quickly and with no issues, even had deliveries via RM on a Sunday, day after Boxing Day, which surprised me. Stuff we ordered on Boxing Day via Amazon came via RM and arrived Sunday and Monday (which was a bank holiday too!)

ForalltheSaints · 01/01/2016 10:54

Not news.

They lost the plot around 10-12 years ago in my view. Failed to adapt to new technology and customer expectations changing. I blame Peter Mandelson in particular for the time he was the minister in charge and appointed a Chief Executive with no relevant experience (Saatchi and Saatchi and the FA!) and a Chairman who had almost bankrupted a football club (Leeds United).

Then the closure of large numbers of sub post-offices (no Post Office Metro or Local instead), stamp machines that took longer to use than to be served at a counter). Most sub-post offices closing at 530pm when the shop they are in is open much longer. Keeping early deliveries when most people are out of the house by 830am (so no part-timers and staff shortages because few people want to start work at 5am).

Not a national treasure, more a national disgrace.

Junosmum · 01/01/2016 11:06

The local council sent my marriage certificate (original, only copy) recorded delivery in November. RM lost it, no apology and my 'compensation' is 6 first class stamps.
