Is a new years resolution of weight loss doomed?!

Exactly that really - I vowed to lose weight last year and am sitting here 1 stone heavier than last year!! I feel absolutely determined to conquer this, this year but wonder how many others are like me? Does having it a new years resolution almost give permission to not do i as resolutions quite often are a bit of standing joke or not taken seriously?
And if you were successful in losing weight in 2015, how or what was the difference?
Is a new years resolution of weight loss bound to fail?! Dos it need to be more than that?

I lost five stone three years ago but it wasn't a NY resolution, I just got to the stage where I had enough of being fat and I was emotionally ready to lose it, so it was then really easy.

I have put on some weight now. Not enough that I can't fit into my jeans but enough to make me not look so good in my jeans and I feel horrible, although no one would call me fat, I still feel self-conscious and horrible.

So I do plan to lose some in Jan, but I have been planning to do so for a few months now, it just happens that I'm in the right frame of mind to lose it again. Tomorrow I'm eating out so it will have to happen on the 2nd Grin Once I'm into the swing of it I'm lucky that I enjoy it but getting in the right frame of mind is the hardest part isn't it?

It's doomed if you aren't in the right place mentally to do it.

This year my resolution is to lose weight and get fit. I was 2 stone lighter at the start of last year. I've had a difficult year and gone through quite a traumatic experience when my dd had a brain haemorrhage. I am an emotional eater and I gained so much weight quite quickly afterwards.

I feel in a place now where I am ready to tackle my weight and fitness but don't want to go back down the same road of joint weight watchers for a few months, losing weight then giving up. I want to do it properly and in a much healthier way this year.

Agree with Chaz. Get specific.
2016 is my year for Being thin.
Dry January
Lots of veg
Cut out sugar
Training for a half marathon.

Now I just need to finish the Christmas wine and chocs Grin

I lost 5.5stone from 6th Jan to July. I then was diagnosed with a form of arthritis and put on some weight. Then started being poorly and being sick and had my gallbladder removed last week. I'm ending the year 5stone lighter. I can't wait to get back to slimming world next week. I found my 'diet'. That's the bit that's key. Find the thing That works for you...

This is going to sound ridiculous, but I bought a child's plate (one with separated sections and about 25 cm in diameter).

The largest section is my veg, other two are protein and starch. If we are entertaining, I transfer that food to a regular plate, otherwise that is what I eat from.

Activity for me was easier after at least the first 6-8 weeks as it became routine.

I have a fitbit, and do my best to hit or exceed my goals every day.

Aside from that, my biggest help has been going it alone - if I wait for family members or friends to join me, nothing gets done.

I am very self conscious, so the gym is a difficult place for me, and solitary, so something like slimming world terrifies me.

My way is a little unconvenational, but it has been working.

I log everything in MyFitnessPal and weigh myself regularly, hard to ignore overeating and weight gain when your so aware of calories and weight.

Good luck!
