To say something to people who go from sauna to pool and vice versa without showering

A few people do this in my leisure center. I think its beyond grim, there are cold showers and the pool is not designed to be a cool plunge pool. Its not even cold.

Would you say something to these grim and unhygienic people?

OP
I have just re-read one of your comments. Odd Confused
Tell me, how does showering reduce human fluids. Plus you say you dont swim anyway. Im at a loss here!

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 30/12/2015 10:09

as all the chlorine evaporates into the air and affects my asthma and allergies. Something about it being far worse when it evaporates into the air
Chlorine is in the evaporate from the pool anyway. That's why you can smell swimming pools, even from outside the building.

Queenbean · 30/12/2015 10:10

Hi Flat was on the charity thread with you, hope you had a lovely Christmas in the end Smile

Derailing!

wasonthelist · 30/12/2015 10:12

What is an adversion?

FlatOnTheHill · 30/12/2015 10:12

Sorry to butt in thread. Hi Queen all good and sorted. Thank you

Takeparacetamolandstopmoaning · 30/12/2015 10:13

Showers aren't hot enough to rid you of germs/ virus'/ fungus so how does it help. You say in your OP they're cold showers anyway- they won't do more than get you wet.

I don't care about this either. If a stranger came up to me and told me to shower I'd call them
Out very loudly for being a rude interfering arse.

DyslexicScientist · 30/12/2015 10:14

I agree pools in the continent are a lot cleaner. They specify certain swimwear and hairnets and if the lifeguards spotted someone looking like they were getting in without showering they would intervene.

Over in the uk pools are just grim.

This thread has , yet again, descended into a "its already shit, no harm making it even shitter" as they so often do these days.

"Pool to sauna I don't like as all the chlorine evaporates into the air and affects my asthma and allergies. Something about it being far worse when it evaporates into the air."

This doesn't make any sense at all. It sounds like you're imagining it

Mrsmorton · 30/12/2015 10:15

Why don't you have a spa day to relax? You sound a bit tense.

DyslexicScientist · 30/12/2015 10:16

I'll book myself into a spa that has good hygiene. won't be anywhere in the uk

Yes! Of course you would be unreasonable to say something. Confused. How rude.

Lucked · 30/12/2015 10:18

I won't have a properly cold shower which is sometimes all they have outside saunas. If I can have a warm shower I will. If it is cold I stick my arms In and rub a bit of water over me but it isn't really effective.

People sweat a lot when swimming so I don't think it matters

FannyTheChampionOfTheWorld · 30/12/2015 10:21

Lol mackerel.

FayKorgasm · 30/12/2015 10:21

"its already shit, no harm making it even shitter"
Nobody said that or alluded to that. Human bodies are generally fluidy and flakey.

mudandmayhem01 · 30/12/2015 10:24

Its amazing how clean pools in northern main land Europe are. Everyone showers and the no shorts ( speedos only!) rule is strictly enforced. All contributes to clear water. The no shorts thing actually works because fluff/ matter collects in the pockets of swim shorts.

ghostspirit · 30/12/2015 10:29

i saw somthing on tv once it said the stronger the smell of clorine the harder its working. meaning there is wee etc in the pool.

TheBunnyOfDoom · 30/12/2015 10:30

So really, you're just annoyed at the general lack of cleanliness in UK pools. Which is reasonable. We have three local pools and only one is clean - it's olympic-sized, adult only and you can't get to it without walking through the showers.

The kiddy pool is overheated and you can get into it without having to shower. As a result, it's dirty, clouded and it smells horrific. There's obviously a link between showering/cleanliness and the pool quality.

But until EVERYONE showers before using the pool (properly, not just standing under some water for 10 seconds), wears clean costumes and a hat and swim nappies etc. are banned, the pools are going to remain disgusting and full of god knows what!

mudandmayhem01 · 30/12/2015 10:40

I took the kids swimming yesterday, the adult pool was really quite clean, the baby pool looked rank. I used to take my children swimming when they were babies but looking back unpotty trained children in a pool is a bit yucky. Maybe your poo/ wee tolerance is higher when you are a parent to very young children.

DyslexicScientist · 30/12/2015 11:13

Pretty much yes. Other countries manage to be so much cleaner and pool lifeguards challenge people.

I lived in Peterborough for a horrific few months and was a real low point in my life the sauna often had disused crisp packets and drink cans. Yuck.

A thin brown sediment drifts along the pool floor down the shallow end in our local. Envy

Thanks, Fusion (who seem to have a virtual leisure centre monopoly in SE London). Guess they're cheap.

DyslexicScientist · 30/12/2015 11:33

Fusion have taken over all the leisure centers where I live in somerset. They've reduced the hours its open and stuck qr codes everywhere Envy

OP posts:
TheLowKing · 30/12/2015 11:47

Oh yes, the reduction in open hours, too. I get that schools, oaps, etc need time, but if you work during the day, there's rarely more than an hour available when you 'qualify' for a swim at our one!

AND there's no one cleaning the changing rooms during the day - and some patrons do some fairly repulsive things with litter/nappies/other things. And that's apart from people going in the pool wearing t-shirts, which I've see twice.

I've dumped it, and joined a casual swimming club so we can all swim in the local independent schools' pools instead. They seem cleaner, and yet also less chloriney (maybe because of the chlorine smell=chlorine having to kill germs thing mentioned above?) Grin

DyslexicScientist · 30/12/2015 12:57

Totally agree, often the only time I can swim is 9-10 pm and that's just too late for me as would need to eat when I get back and I wake at 6 for work.

I'm envious you have options other than fusion. Only other thing here is the soho house place, and you need a letter from kate Moss or something to say how cool you are before you cab join.

I'd easily pay three times the price for a chlorine free ozone pool with fewer members of the great unwashed.

jevoudrais · 30/12/2015 13:29

I think swimming pools are manky at the best of times. The only time I will go near is on a hot holiday! I think it would be fruitless to try and not worth the agg, but YANBU.
