My brother and his girlfriend lent my daughter a dvd 2 years ago. She is 8, so was 6 then. She loved it and watched it loads.

We offered it back, they declined, and said while she was enjoying it it was fine to borrow.

Anyway, they recently asked for it back and we unfortuntely cannot find it. We have the box but no disk. I looked loads and can't see it anywhere, we have moved since the loan so may be lost somewhere.

I apologised profusely and offered to buy a new one which they accepted. New one on order.

End of or so I thought.

Turns out Xmas day while here, my brother went looking through her room for it, then yesterday they message to tell us they had a look, that she has the box and no disc and could we help her look as it must be somewhere!!

I think this is a bloody cheek personally, not trusting we helped look anyway but also going through her room!

What do you think? Should I have done more?

I would think more as Laurie said. If you hadn't told him that you could find the case and not the dvd, then he may have seen the case and thought you didn't realise you had it so he'd save you money.

And to say if he'd lent it to you for 2 years he shouldn't expect it back is really rude. It was kind of him to lend it in the first place, and kinder to say as she liked it so much to hold on to it for now.
If you make a fuss then he won't bother lending to you again.

Yanbu...I personally would not lend a 6 yr old a DVD and expect it back in working order after a few weeks, nevermind 2 years! Bit odd the room was searched too but I wouldn't let that bother me.

I agree entirely with fish

Weird for him to search her room. Hope he didn't search yours too!

Ask them if it's a 'special edition' (which would be weird to lend to a child). If not, tell them the replacement is on order & there's nothing else you can do.

He wasn't bothered when you tried to return it before, hasn't asked about it for TWO years and you have replaced it anyway but he was so preoccupied by it that he snuck away to secretly search your house on Christmas Day?! Confused I don't understand why he is making such a fuss about it now. Have there been any other recent issues? Just reiterate that you have looked for it, can't find it and have ordered a replacement. Then never borrow anything from him ever again! It wasn't Frozen by any chance was it? Then you could sing Let It Go at him!
