So now I guess that's a grand for a new one. It was only put in 5 years ago.

After just paying a similar amount for new doors, and also for a bathroom I can't use, this feels like the last fucking straw. All I do is spend money Sad

British gas tried to rip us off twice. My mum was on the brink of dementia and came down to my house waving a contract under my nose for £4,500 . This was for a new boiler and fire. That was it. Mum was over the moon to be getting rid of the fire she hated. BG must have been rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of making all that dosh out of an OAP. What riled me no end was the fact that they were quite happy to stick a new boiler and fire onto forty year old radiators , gunked up with forty years worth of god knows what!!!

They must have been as hopping mad as my mother when she realised she wasn't getting her new fire after all......but nowhere near as mad as my daughter who tore them up for arse paper when she rang up to cancel.

The other occasion was when they came to my aunts boiler. They wanted me to pay £800 to flush it out. I got my own friendly plumber out who said flushing it would not work. About £80 later he got it sorted....and that ten year old boiler is going strong 7 years later.

Ask around your friends . Word of mouth is your best bet.

It might raise a smile if I tell you I read your thread title as 'butler' initially and was all ready to post FFS Grin

I'm sorry, that sucks. Sadly have nothing to add to the helpful suggestions but hopefully all is not lost Flowers

I am in Kent too and can definitely recommend Swale heating. They replaced my boiler two years ago and have been out for a radiator fault. Good price and reliable, tidy and friendly workers

Swale heating it is then ;-)

Can I suggest you contact the manufacturer of the boiler. Dh calls them out when he is unable to repair a boiler and they normally find the fault or issue.
