To think DB is being a bit cheeky and stingy?

Just got a text from him asking if I can go halves on the cost of a family dinner he is preparing for 12 of us extended family tomorrow. Me and my family (four of us) are travelling over 100 miles to our home town, paying for hotel room and a petsitter so we can all be together for the day. We are also bringing nice booze and a load of posh cheese, so all in all it's costing us quite a bit of effort and £££ to visit. Surely he can cough up for the cost of the main course as his contribution? (our mum is providing pudding and veg stuff from her larder). I have said yes, but am tempted to deduct cost of cheese and booze if he is going be like that. Am I being a grinch, or is he being a bit stingy? He earns a good wage so it's not like he is hard up. I can afford to chip in okay, but the fact he has asked has left a bit of a sour taste to be honest. Bah!

YodellingForJesus another thing to remember is that usually there are tons of left overs and you may well leave it for him, maybe not all the wine, I don't know but certainly if I took things like cheeses I would not be expecting them back!

Does he realise how much your contribution to the meal has already amounted to? I'd be texting back to say that you're already bringing £xx of cheese and drinks, and what kind of contribution was he thinking?

CharleyDavidson · 28/12/2015 11:50

What happened, op?

YodellingForJesus · 28/12/2015 22:53

Well, I got an email from him inviting me to edit a spreadsheet he'd concocted and shared to google drive.

After a lot of faffing around logging in (forgot my google password..) and downloading an app, I was able to open the doc. He'd made a very elaborate formula to spread the cost evenly based on numbers of adults and under-18s in eah family unit. After putting in the amount I had spent, it worked out that I owed him £0.00. Hmm

Have yet to hear back.

pluck · 28/12/2015 23:18

Oh, no! It's the 28th and I've lost a day! Shock Clearly I had more to drink today than I thought!

CharleyDavidson · 28/12/2015 23:20

Ha ha ha. Hoist by his own petard! Or spreadsheet as the case may be.

Excellent.

And he can't argue with his own excel mastery, surely. Well, I hope he doesn't when you turn up for the meal.

CakeNinja · 28/12/2015 23:55

Wtf? What twat goes to the effort of producing a spreadsheet of the expenditure of one family meal?
That's tight in the extreme Shock

Do let us know the outcome OP Grin

ImtheChristmasCarcass · 29/12/2015 00:45

I loves a happy ending, I does.

Enjolrass · 29/12/2015 07:11

He invited everyone round then made a spreadsheet of what everyone owes?

Bollocks to that! That's ridiculous
