To not want my 4.5 yr old to watch Star Wars

He's desperate to see it, DH is desperate to take him. Lots of his reception age friends have been to see it. I think he's too young. Mumsnet Jury - should he be allowed to go?!

Hmm, it's no help at all but I think it depends on your 4.5 year old specifically.

DD is also 4.5, and has not been to see it. Apart from the fact she has shown no interest whatsoever in it (that's my girl Wink), I know she would be scared.

DS2 however, would have been fine to see it at the same age.

My just turned 4 yr old loved it- wasn't at all scared as he always knew the good guys would win in the end

He also sat through the whole thing - lots of light saber fights to keep his attention

OohMrDarcy · 21/12/2015 21:20

I took my two to see it ... DS (nearly 6) and DD ( 8.10)

Both loved it - have seen the original star wars films and its on a par with those, not OTT / Gory like the newer ones in my mind.

Eh no.....its a 12A. I've just taken DS(10) and his friends and DS (8) to see it and its quite violent. Its also quite long.

We are taking our dc on Thursday. Youngest is 5. He's seen the first six numerous times. He is so excited.

I took my dd and her two friends for her birthday they are all nine. She is a bit of a sensitive soul and I think last year at age eight she wouldn't have enjoyed it. It's a good film but felt quite long particularly if you are worried about kids reactions. It was the first time I have been to a booked out screening in years so if taking younger kids I would probably wait until it's less crowded

Dh and 16 went at the weekend said there were 5 year old sitting next to them and the whole way through he was fidgeting or asking what was happening.

I think if you have to explain what's going on its beyond them take him to see snoppy

Mostly this has been hyped up by grown up

sarahbanshee · 21/12/2015 21:40

My just turned 7yo went at the weekend with a birthday party but got quite scared and asked to leave - I wouldn't have said he's particularly sensitive usually but he said it was very loud and scary (and he is quite tired at the moment as many kids are at the end of term). Definitely a risk but you know your kid - most of DS's friends were fine.

I would love to take DD1 (5 yr old) to it, but I know that it would be too long for her. I took my nephew (6 yr old) and he's still bouncing off the walls after it! :-)

squiggleirl1 · 21/12/2015 22:42

We took our 9, 7 and 3.5 year olds to it - they all loved it. None of them had any issues sitting through it, and no one was frightened.
