He finished work for the holidays earlier today. He came home, got changed and went to the pub with his workmates.

I've just gone to put a load of washing in and found that he's put ONE works jumper in the washing machine and set it on a 3 hour cycle!

Is he mad?! We have 3 DC and a constant stream of washing. Why on earth couldn't he have put a full load on? Or at least all of his work gear, rather than just the jumper?

SYS, it seems that lately unless you explicitly label a thread "lighthearted", posters take it upon themselves to tell you what a twat you are for even bothering to get annoyed about something so trivial, don't you know there's kids dying in Africa, etc etc. I wouldn't worry about it.

TeaFathers · 18/12/2015 13:28

YANBU. the lazy git.
i'd stop the cycle and then put in a full wash with it. probably at a lower temp too. was he trying to boil his jumper? he'll wreck it.
i wouldn't be too pleased about him doing that either. its a waste of resources.
no wonder the planet is on its knees when there are millions of inconsiderate people doing shit like that.

HSMMaCM · 18/12/2015 13:30

I'm hoping it was because it really needed washing well ASAP and he didn't want to ruin anything else.

I have 3 green spots on my machine - one where the washing liquid goes, one where the dial should be turned to and one on the start button. Everyone in the house now knows how to put a quick wash on (DH and I do allow ourselves to use other settings).

derxa · 18/12/2015 13:45

We all do separate washing in our house (4 adults). Washing machine wars!!

SatsukiKusakabe · 18/12/2015 13:47

It's just that if I started a thread about everything my dh did that was mildly annoying I'd always be on here still am

How else is it supposed to go, 400 posts saying yes, that is bloody annoying? Grin

SatsukiKusakabe · 18/12/2015 13:48

Also, you can stop and open the door of my washing machine part way through. I always thought it would gush out and I'd have to flee the ensuing flood like arose DeWitt Bukater, but no. It just stops.

The controls on our washing machine and new tumble drier are like something in a NASA space station. I'm almost scared to touch the bloody things.

MrsJayy · 18/12/2015 14:50

My washing machine plays a tune its cheery i like a dial and push button i cant cope with techy faffery

fortifiedwithtea · 18/12/2015 16:28

RudeElf Our washing machine is a Miele - Novotronic W827. Only one minor repair this summer, brushes needed replacing. Its brilliant seen us through the baby stage with DD2, the football Club mud stage with DD1 and copes with washing fleece covered in hay (we have guinea pigs).

I asked the repair man what was the oldest machine he'd seen. He reckoned about 40 years old but possibly everything had been replaced over that time Xmas Grin

Jux · 18/12/2015 16:34

I hate my washing machine. The shortest wash takes 1 hour and a half. I yearn for my old one which would do a quick wash in 45 mins.

RudeElf · 18/12/2015 16:35

Thanks fortified. I bought a new indesit machine in february (andni hate it) but i think i'll start saving towards a miele for when this one inevitably goes.

toffeeboffin · 18/12/2015 16:52

Sound about right this.

Still, a three hour cycle? WTF?

AppleSetsSail · 18/12/2015 16:57

Three hours is standard for a European washing machine, other than a fast wash - no?

My husband is similarly clueless about the wash, sadly I don't know any men IRL who do laundry.

Shock

My quick wash is 14 minutes! I was rather sceptical at first, but I've used it a few times for items that need a freshen but no actual stains - and they come out looking and smelling just as nice.

Speederman · 18/12/2015 17:07

My DM always says that the washing is the last thing men assimilate.

My dad lost his job once so he took over all the jobs in the house (DM said it was bliss coming home to a sparkling house with the shopping done, a fresh cake on the table and dinner in the oven Smile - she was almost disappointed when he found a new job) but the washing machine managed to remain a mystery for ages...

I've actually found the same. DH does every job in the house (well, we share, but he can and will do every task) but he seems to have a mental block on the washing machine?! Still, I have decided to have a mental block on hoovering and cleaning windows so fair is fair Wink

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 18/12/2015 17:10

At least your DH knows how to use a washing machine. I don't think mine even knows where it is Wink

Sallystyle · 18/12/2015 17:11

My washing machine takes 3 hours on a 40 wash Hmm

My old one took an hour! It's bloody awful.

Want2bSupermum · 18/12/2015 17:17

OP - Don't feel so bad. DH put the dishwasher on last night with one pot in it. Cycle finished I was looking quizzically at the insides of the machine, trying to figure out why this had happened.

RudeElf · 18/12/2015 17:24

Does no-one keep the instruction booklet for their machines? I find all the machine programmes quite unnecessary complicated so i always keep the instruction booklet opened at the page with the programme guide and refer to it if there is anything i'm not sure about. I tend to use the same 3 programmes now after 10 months to get used to it but its there if i'm unsure. Seems to me that would solve a lot of "DH doesnt know how to work the washing machine" problems. Or yoh could do what my mum did when i first started to do the laundry as a teen. She wrote her own programme guide and taped it to the front of the machine so no-one had any excuse for not doing it or for doing it badly.

CoffeeCoffeeAndLotsOfIt · 18/12/2015 18:11

Could he have meant to put more in, but somehow forgot and run it with just the jumper...? I'm clutching a bit at straws as I know I once ran a full load with no washing liquid inside (I blamed it on baby brain!) and obviously needed to run it again.

I can understand why you're frustrated tho! I'd be a bit peeved with my husband if he'd done it.

ScarlettDarling · 18/12/2015 19:36

A 3 hour cycle?!

Why does anything need washing for 3 hours?! Just how dirty does he get?

Bogeyface · 18/12/2015 19:46

SHortly after I had DC6 I put the machine on with absolutely no washing in it, I had started to collect stuff, got distracted and then ten minutes later switched the machine on complete with liquid and conditioner.

When he went to "unload" it and asked where the clothes were I had a brief "eh? Oh.....oh shit" moment and then passed it off as a maintenance wash. I had heard of them courtesy of MN but never actually done one, so thanks for that :o
