Every year the news feed is flooded with pictures of living rooms overflowing with presents.

Is there any purpose to this other than to gloat and make other people feel shit?

I too agree with everything eatshitderek and the others have said. I'd also like to say that the thought that kids who gets lots don't/won't appreciate it and are spoiled brats is very unfair.

My dc get a lot. I'm pretty poor and I struggle all year but I always manage to get them decent presents. I start shopping/saving early and buy stuff when it's on offer (I just bung it all on my Amazon wish list and buy when it goes down in price Grin) I'm also happy to go without myself. My mum buys them quite a lot too but I can honestly say that they appreciate what they get. Nothing just gets thrown aside and everything gets played with and enjoyed for a long time. Maybe my dc are the exception to the rule (I very much doubt it!) but they look after and value their belongings.

Sorry for the slight derailment.

We haven't had a holiday abroad in 11 years. I don't begrudge people posting holiday pics. Same thin really.
