We have a walk in-shower, not a bath. Am I completly unrealistic that will manage to bath baby with baby bath on floor of shower?

Thanks all, that's all set my mind at rest- my folks live only about 4 miles away and they have 2 huge baths so love the suggestion of baths being a at grandparents thing till we get money/time to redo bathroom -if we do go for that-. Was just a bit unnerved by the quelle horreur (sp?) chat from woman at work who you would have thought Id said we were planning on hosing down baby in the garden when I mentioned we didn't have a 'bath' bathroom! Wink

The sink is best for a baby; the right night for your back and the right size. Put a flannel of the plug if it's pokey.

Then those big trugs will be fine.

I'd avoid the expense tbh.

I don't see what's wrong with using a plastic tub in the shower cubicle for when a little one wants to splash around.

You put the baby bath under the shower to run them a bath. Gradually (when they're a bit bigger) introduce the idea of having the shower running at the same time they're in the bath so they're used to the water falling on their head. Then when they're too big to still use the baby bath, they start just having a shower. No problem.

Its difficult around toddler age though. My 3 yr old ds hates the shower. We have no bath in our flat either.

My dd is 3.5 we managed perfectly with just a walk in shower. Used the shower to fill the baby bath then when she could stand she had a shower.

We have a fairly roomy walk-in shower, DDs (5 and 7) still take their bath in there in a €5 plastic Ikea baby bath tub. They can take bubble baths in it and wash their Barbies and play with bath toys. We close the sliding doors so they can splash around.

I used to live in Oz where lots of houses have no bath. Toddlers/small children are bathed by putting a large plastic box in the shower and filling it up with the shower hose.

If you are likely to move then don't bother. If you will need to do it eventually anyway then I would do it now if you can. We had our bathroom done before dc2 was born. It was a faff and that was with 4yo dd and another loo and sink to use.

If I was really getting a bathroom overhauled for a baby, money no object, I'd have a big Belfast sink next to a nice sturdy worktop for bathing and changing little ones. And I'd have one of those teeny tiny toilets, just for the cuteness value.

We never use our bath, just our shower. We've never had a problem with showering the dc. They get plenty of water play at the pool, and sitting at the bottom of the shower with a plug in.

My baby is 4 months old, and has barely ever even been in our bathroom! I bath him in a baby bath on the floor of the adjoining bedroom.

Maybe.... But you're coming to the end of the baby bath period... Give it a short while and the baby bath will be too small.

DS loves playing in the shower, he gets to choose a couple of waterproof toys and splashes happily. Once we're all done I take the shower head down and he sprays it about happily for a few minutes.

This lasts until the water hits the ceiling and ricochets around the room, whereupon there is an almighty row and he is frogmarched out of the shower.

I dunno, I can remember sitting in my baby bath in front of the open fire when I was a kid, I used to flick water at the fire to make it sizzle and my mum would tell me off. It was probably the warmest place in our otherwise unheated house and I must've been 4 or 5.

I forgot to add, when my dc were little we used to just hold them in the shower.

Babies are slippery as fuck in the shower though

Use a small paddling pool when baby is a toddler!

Just wanted to chip in - You can also get HUGE baby baths these days - we've just had our whole bathroom done so borrowed one to bath DS in while work was going on. He's 2.5 and had plenty of room for him, his train, a digger... etc .... You should be able to manage fine.

Much to my dismay we don't have a bath. Our boy is 3 next week. And he's not a small 3. When he grew out of the baby bath we had one of those inflatable ducks that goes in a normal bath and now we have a fucking huge baby bath. He is still fitting in it nicely. And has proper baths at GPs.

Gosh, we used a baby bath until well over two with our first. Admittedly it was plonked in the bigger bath, but we filled it using the shower. He coped fine in it.

Why not put all these hulking three years olds in the shower though?

Are they soluble under running water?

Not three, but mine were getting on for that before they could be trusted not to fall over in the shower. Even with a mat.

Buy a massive storage box and use that. We've got one my nearly 4 year old could fit in if the need arose!

Mine just sits down and blocks the bloody plughole
