Does anyone take Carbamazepine? morning after pill emergency

I've been taking carbamazepine for 12 months & about three weeks ago I was told hormonal contraceptives wouldn't work,

Would this include the morning after pill, the doctor at the time didn't know, it hasn't been as issue but I've started dating someone & the condom split,

If you take carbamazepine what contraception do you use?

Don't stop the carb, as others have said it will take ages to leave your system anyway and then you'll have to build up again. Just speak to someone and get some advice rather than guess at things.

If you do plan a pregnancy in the future you should certainly take folic acid as that helps to mitigate the carb (they won't stop it if you take it for epilepsy) and speak to your consultant (if you have a neuro or similar, GP if not) about it who should give you some advice.

My husband takes it and while he's not taking oral contraceptives (obvs) other medications shouldn't be taken in parallel without a consultation with a doctor.

I'm on 500mg and have been taling the stuff for half my life (now there's a sobering fact). I'm sure there is increased risks in a pregnancy but I was told that some anti-epilepsy drugs the drs don't recommend getting pregnant while taking.
Carbamazipine wasn't one of these type.

I've had two DCs without altering my dose. I did take prescribed folic acid for a while before getting pregnant too. My youngest is 7 now so research could have found new evidence. Best to go with what your dr says.
