Waitrose is overpriced

Don't get me wrong its lovley and some good stuff. But the vast majority is no better quality than most (probably from the same suppliers) but costs more. Has gone downhill with the massive expansion. I remember 20 years ago my home economics teacher saying waitrose was a shadow of its former self! I think it caters to aspirational middle class and boomers that have more money than they can spend.

Theyvhave just sent me a 10% off card to use for December and January an unlimited amount of times. That must mean its overpriced right? Big profit margins as the other supermarkets are only making a few percent profit on sales.

I get a Waitrose delivery fairly frequently, shop the offers and get brilliant, friendly service. I think their meat is excellent quality.

The only food shops (not even supermarkets, food shops) near here are a Tesco and Scotmid, if I had to get in the car and travel I would choose to go to Waitrose because I'd pick up some nice bits and pieces, like olives and unusual spices. It's the only supermarket I actually enjoy going to. I'll go there for the Christmas food shop.

But actually if I had one food shopping wish, it would be for a Lidl or Aldi within walking distance.

I don't think Waitrose is overpriced, but obviously you are paying for the overall experience. They must treat their staff better than the other big retailers because their staff are happy. You'd walk a long mile in sore shoes before you'd get a smile of anyone at my local Tesco.

I gave examples of how I shop Bike
Its not just about cost but quality.
Yep if I went and bought cheap rubbish in Tesco my shop would be cheaper
Just what is 45p in Tesco that is £1.40 in Waitrose and is the same quality?

I buy all the essentials ranges vs the premium in Tesco, there is no difference in quality(although often Waitrose is nicer) ,hence its cheaper to shop in Waitrose.

I only buy meat and fruit from m&s and waitrose. Branded generic stuff Asda/morrisons/telco. Waitrose keep sending me £8 off a £40 shop vouchers.
I have the Sparks card, I chose my discount this week, £10 off a£50 shop.
As it was the Dine in deal at m&s this week I bought 3 dine in meals and other stuff. The till total came to £86, I paid £52 with the combined offers.

It depends what you buy and cost trakers tend to focus on branded goods as own brand are difficult to compare on quality (eg free-range, healthiness etc)

It also depends on what you buy this article showed Waitrose as cheaper for cereal, nappies and health and beauty products.

Waitrose is hAlf a mile from my house, so I shop there a lot. It's pleasant and the food is good. I do make the effort to trek to Lidl once a week though. Still spend for times as much at Waitrose though. I am miffed to hear that others are getting better offers. I was sent two vouchers for £6 off a £60 shop and £15 off a £150 shop. Clearly other posters are being more ardently wooed!

Of course Waitrose is overpriced, that's the whole point. Their pricing keeps out the riff-raff, which is exactly what it's supposed to do.

The middle classes can then enjoy buying artisan carrots, obscure cheeses and organic houmous in peace, without having to put up with listening to tattooed chavs swearing at their offspring.

I love Waitrose.
