DS is six and in love with this bike. He has been told no and he understands he is not getting it and now he does not ask to buy it but every weekend he wants to go to halfords and ride it.

Its £100 and its quite heavy and the seat does not adjust so it will not last as long.

We don't do much biking. Just to the park and back and on a local bmx dirt track.

My head says no but santa my heart just wants to buy this for Christmas. He is a very good boy and it would take Christmas day to another level!

He totally believes in Santa and that's not going to last much longer.

We can sell his old bike so no landfill / storage issues.

AIBU to buy this silly bike?

Buy something little, even a Car Air freshener and you'll get the £10 off, that makes it less than half price at £90.

Absolute bargain.

x2boys · 13/12/2015 08:15

I remember when I was about the same age and still believed in santa I told my mum at the last minute santa was bringing me a baby alive doll she rushed around all the shops and managed to get me one as most had sold out I still remember the excitement your son will love it!

Enb76 · 13/12/2015 08:18

My brother got something similar when he was about 7. He still remembers it very fondly and he's mid-forties now. Sometimes a present is more something you want than something that you need.

inmyheadimthequeen · 13/12/2015 08:24

I came on to say 'buy it if you can afford it' but have seen your update and I'm so glad you did, yay!. He will remember the surprise forever. Happy Christmas!!

Hurr1cane · 13/12/2015 08:33

I wish DS was into them at the age when he could have them but being developmentally delayed he just wasn't.

If I found one his size I would definitely go for it. Very glad you did.

I'm still teaching DP about the magic of Christmas. He's very frugal and DS needs something soon as his old one is getting slow and won't last much longer. I got it him and DP thinks I should wait till his old one is gone before cracking out the new one, but I bet when he sees DSs face Christmas morning (first Christmas morning he'll be with us) he'll change his mind on it all.

monkeyfacegrace · 13/12/2015 08:34

Eek! I'm so excited for your little boy! Please take a photo on xmas morning and update the thread Grin

Mine have written letters to santa this year (they are 9 and 7), which say 'we have everything that we want, so a surprise would be lovely. And we would like some meerkat sweeties.'

Kids are ace.

GloGirl · 13/12/2015 08:34

Even I kind of want that bike, it is super cool Xmas Smile

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 13/12/2015 08:35

SummerHouse · 13/12/2015 08:44

This is the best thread ever.

Not one person saying "first world problem, get over yourself" etc. Grin

Thank you so much everyone. I will update on Christmas day. I hope you all have a lively, lovely one.

I especially hope you show your DP hurr1cane how amazing it can be. Hope your DS is as excited as I know mine will be. Xmas WinkXmas Grin

Cute thread. As the little sister, I still remember my brother being given the most stylish bike on the block. I'm another vote for do it!

TodmordensDog · 13/12/2015 09:04

Or check the shopping cash back websites (topcashback, quidco etc) and see if any are doing a big percentage :)

Merry Christmas- hope you have a magical day. Grin

notasillysausage · 13/12/2015 09:06

Aww I have a warm Christmassy glow! I hope your little boy loves it Smile

MumOfGorgeousness · 13/12/2015 09:10

Buy it if he desperately loves it, but be prepared to fork out lots on a 'proper' bike in a years time when the novelty wears off and he finds it too heavy to ride.

MumOfGorgeousness · 13/12/2015 09:12

I didn't mean to sound so negative, it wasn't intentional! Just don't expect to see this one last long. He'll be so excited bless him. It does look very very cool.

Hurr1cane · 13/12/2015 09:49

In a few years time just go for a second hand bike from a reputable second hand shop (not eBay or selling sites). DSs cost me £50 and is very good quality.

But for now he'll be the coolest. You can et helmets that look like motorbike helmets too. DS has one of those

monkeyfacegrace · 24/12/2015 16:41

Update us tomorrow OP

I've genuinally been excited about this bike present!
