DH says he doesn't mind but I think it looks odd.
AIBU to have an expectation that they would match the bricks or should we have asked especially?Xmas Hmm

Is that even attached to the wall properly? I don't know much about bricks but that doesn't look like it will last.

PurpleGreenAvocado · 13/12/2015 11:29

like I asked earlier, where did he leave his horse?

BMW6 · 13/12/2015 11:31

Having seen the pic, DO NOT PAY A PENNY. No professional bricklayer has laid those bricks! I could do better than that and I've never laid a brick in my life, but have had walls and extension built by a real brickie so know what the result should look like.

Igiveupn0w · 13/12/2015 11:31

Sorry...I 've not been clear. That is the inside which will be plastered. The outside view is a lot neater...I just took the picture quickly without putting my shoes on to show the colour.
There is a metal strip on the wall.
Could he be right? Could the colour vary so much? Maybe he is right.Sad

I can lay bricks better than that!
I have never ever seen bricks laid with the v notch visible.

You've got bigger problems than just the colour of your bricks...

AlisonWunderland · 13/12/2015 11:34

That's not a poor match.
It's not a match at all

DoreenLethal · 13/12/2015 11:37

It should still be tied in OP. That is shoddy work. Can you show us a view of the outside as well?

MrsGradyOldLady · 13/12/2015 11:46

I was going to sat the same as alison the colour of the bricks is the least of your problems. My husband works in construction and just said "fucking hell!". He says the bricks have been split the wrong way and it's very rough and should be tied in.

VegetablEsoup · 13/12/2015 11:48

either it should be properly tied into the existing wall, or not at all, then with a membrane between new and old wall.
sorry op, that looks like shit. Sad

Igiveupn0w · 13/12/2015 11:50

Sorry. This is more representative.

I would be concerned that your builder is so shoddy that he didn't bother with even trying to match the bricks and didn't discuss it with you either. If he is that lax about things you can see, what the hell is he like with stuff you can't !

I have done lots of building projects on my current home - years worth Sad - and the issue of brick matching was very important to both me and my builder. He took pride in his work and worked hard to match our very old and unusual bricks.

Best of luck!

TheAnswerIsYes · 13/12/2015 11:55

Sorry, I have another question. Is the brick wall only single skin (one brick deep)? If it is going to hold up a lot of glazing and a roof it should really be double brick thickess.

I do think it is worth a call to building control as I would be very concerned that a single skin wall that hasn't been tied in properly would eventually come away from the house because of the weight put on it..

TheCarpenter · 13/12/2015 11:56

Ask if they need a bucket of water for their horse. Fucking cowboys.

lucy101101 · 13/12/2015 12:03

Get building control to pay a visit. I ended up in (small claims) court with a builder (who lost his case and had to pay my counterclaim). Having confirmation from building control that the work was shoddy and did not meet building regulations was important to support my case.

TheCarpenter · 13/12/2015 12:11

Have you got a picture of the whole wall? So you can see both facings in one?

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 13/12/2015 12:12

Do they intend a second outside layer to match?
I would stop work until you are happy and can see the bricks.

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 13/12/2015 12:13

Also i would want the glass window frames to match the house.

Brioche201 · 13/12/2015 12:16

Well the second picture looks a lot better! It may be impossible to get a closer match

DoreenLethal · 13/12/2015 12:18

I do not think those ties are strong enough to carry the load that you have said is going on, and I do not think that a single skin wall is enough for glass windows.

Get someone local to come and look this over, I would not be happy with it.
