...Calling your parents mummy and daddy?

Not an aibu but just curious.. When is really too old to be using the names mummy and daddy?

I have never ever called my mom 'mommy', she has always been mom.

I can't remember when j switched from daddy to dad but I would imagine most kids do at about 4/5?? That's just me guessing from the children I know but I have no idea from personal experience.

I switched to mum & dad at some point (probably mid 20s) but my sister in mid 30s still says 'mummy' occassionally

My 9 and 12 year olds have called us mum and dad for as long as I can remember. They stopped with mummy and daddy from age 5ish probably

I don't remember ever calling mine mummy/daddy

I dunno, I'm 26 and I will still call my mum mummy sometimes...mainly when she's poorly I.e "oh, poor mummy!" Because I'm a patronising dick apparently...

Yeah.. That's sounds normal...
Dh's 16 yr old ds and 14 yr old dd still call him daddy and I find it unusual...

About aged 10? I think adults calling their parents mummy and daddy is a bit weird

I still say daddy occasionally, usually when I need a lift, money or a babysitter.

I like to call my mum Nanny, she cringes every time

My kids call me mumbleton

They are staying tonight and every time I hear 16yr old ds say "daddyyyyy..?" It hurts my ears.

Who says it has to stop. It's a name and becomes weird to change it after a while (am 38, with 2 DC)

I stopped around the time of secondary school. I expect that my children stopped around that age- it just starts to seem silly to say mummy and daddy by then.

All my SIL - six of them- call their parents mummy and daddy. They range from 43-33. It makes me cringe.

Lots of posh people never stop.

Are they his children and not yours? I just wondered if this was a factor in why you feel that way. Not that in any different. We never use those terms in my family and I find them grating.

I still say mammy and daddy if taking about my parents- so if I where to walk in the house I'd say 'where's mammy?!' . Mam and dad to them as in ' you all right mam?' .

I still say mummy/daddy and I'm 34 . Not when referring to them to other people or in public though!
I probably had a mum/dad sabbatical period during my teens but it crept back in when I left home!
Dd is 6 and still says mummy/daddy.

Are you American, Writer. As they often call their mum "mom and their dad " Daddy" don't they.

I don't remember when I stopped saying Mommy. I think I switched from daddy to dad at about 8/9, I still say daddy sometimes though. I'm the only girl, all of my brothers have said dad from quite young.
DS is 3.5 and he calls me mom or mam or by my first name sometimes but it is mostly Mommy

Probably about 16/17, I call my mum motherduck now cause it makes her laugh and dad Is just dad. Till last year dps spoilt brat sister called their parents mama and dada

Well they stopped at about 5 I guess. However, I still refer to myself as mummy and dh as daddy. I think this got worse when we got the dog, 'go to daddy'!

Used mum and dad more in my teens/early twenties but went back to mummy and daddy when they got older. Thinking about it, I think it was because the name felt more affectionate/loving.

My dh calls his parents mama and dada (as does a friend - I think it is an Irish thing) and he is old.

My DSs are in their late teens & early 20s and still call DH daddy. They started calling me mum years ago, but he's always been daddy. I guess it's a bit unusual, but it's their choice. They refer to him as dad if talking about him to someone else, but when addressing him he's daddy. It's normal to them & they've never been teased about it.
