Every day I see another petition to ban this, boycott that, no-platform the other. Often just because someone's said something a bit off-colour.

Personally I like my dickheads out in the open where I can see them. And if someone has controversial views, they should be debated, not banned.

Totally agree, OP - I want these people visible, so people can hear their ideas and make their minds up for themselves whether they are risible or not. These ideas aren't going to go away by being hidden - in fact, shining a light on them is the best way to remove their power.

It's all getting a bit 1984 for me in the real world these days.

I don't think banning Trump will stop anyone hearing him. The man is like an annoying wasp.
