We have a parcel box which is a godsend- our wonderful postie even put all our mail in it while we were on holidays (no letterbox).

Most of the regular couriers know about it, but we did have somebody new once who put a package in the recycling- very annoying!

I really hate this. I had a dress that I intended to be my wedding dress left in my stinking general waste bin. It was empty but very very stinky.

queenMab99 · 08/12/2015 19:33

I used to keep my paper recycling bag in the front porch, until I realised the postman was delivering letters into it!

pigsDOfly · 08/12/2015 19:34

My daughter bought an expensive hardback book as a present for a friend, Hermes person left it outside the front door on a rainy day during a particularly wet period. Book was completely ruined.

Why would anyone leave anything out in the rain that's packed in a cardboard box.

purplepolkadots · 08/12/2015 19:45

Last week the postman left a large £100 parcel ON the bin. It was there all day and anyone could have taken it. So think yourself lucky?

PurpleGreenAvocado · 08/12/2015 19:45

Amazon did it this week with a parcel containing herbal teas, not even the recycling bin either but the full black bin. They reluctantly gave me a refund.

ExplodingCarrots · 08/12/2015 19:47

Yep I've had this (recently had a thread on it). My Royal Mail postman put my parcel in the food bin. Of all places, the manky, full, food bin.

andantecantabile · 08/12/2015 19:50

Yesterday the Hermes person chucked my package over the side gate into the back garden!

crispytruffle · 08/12/2015 20:01

My friends parcel got left in the bin and it was collection day! I once had a big batch of a4 photos squashed underneath the large side gate of my house. I just thought the package hadn't showed up and then I saw it 3 days later sopping wet and damaged. I never did understand why the delivery guy thought to put them there during wet weather especially since it was obvious they were photos!

Waitingfordolly · 08/12/2015 20:04

Hermes just insisted DD12 signed for a parcel (her Xmas present!) thought that wasn't allowed. She was returning from school and I was actually in the house.

PansyGiraffe · 08/12/2015 20:13

andant Royal Mail did that to us too. A fancy musical box chucked over the gate into the back garden in November, didn't bother to tell us they'd "delivered" it. Obviously I had told the company it had got lost in the post, they'd sent another and filed a claim against the Royal Mail. I found it behind a bush the following Spring when I was doing some gardening. It wasn't exactly blossoming.

Sandyclaus · 08/12/2015 20:22

I ordered a set of pans one year from John Lewis and Hermes left them in my wheelie bin. It was the height of summer and my bin was a day off a two week collection, 3 quarters full including bags of dog poo from my two dogs. I went absolutely mad - but luckily the customer service department were helpful and sent me a new set. They insisted I sent the old ones back though had to fish them out of the bin covered in all kinds. It was vile.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 08/12/2015 20:39

Stealth I don't think I've posted it before, which is pretty bad. It means that I'm not the only person to have had this idiocy to deal with!

cashewnutty · 08/12/2015 20:43

I had some new shoes delivered recently by Hermes. They were left in my general waste bin - i have a dog. The parcel stunk and was a bit gunky. Thankfully i didn't need to return the parcel. I live rurally and have loads of places around my house that a parcel could be hidden. I have no idea why they chose my bin.

CurlyCustard · 08/12/2015 20:58

I had Hermes leave a small parcel behind the outdoor waste pipe leading from the bathroom once.....I didn't even notice it. Thankfully I had a card through the door which by the sounds of things is a rare occurence

poocatcherchampion · 08/12/2015 21:02

We had a funny one today.

A load of parcels in the pushchair basket of the porch. Visible from the driveway.

Note above stuck to the door saying they were in there with generic wording saying "would I like to collect them from their click and collect place - much more convenient"

What, more convenient than >>> ??

fadingblonde1 · 08/12/2015 22:05

I have this all the time from Royal Mail, or else they just leave the package on the floor by the back door where anyone could get it. I've complained about it - and about the postman signing for registered deliveries, literally signed 'pp your postie' - but got nowhere.

peckforton · 08/12/2015 23:34

I actually ask them to leave parcels in the blue recycling bin. I rinse and washout anything put in it. so I don't have to go and collect it somewhere miles away.
