He sounds like no one I've ever heard and more like a caricature of a northerner! Honestly it winds me up whenever I see him. Sorry.

I am from the Leeds area.

No one I know speaks like that.

He does sound like dhs grandad, a bit, who was from Lancashire

Valdeeves · 08/12/2015 15:13

I used to live in Leeds and have always thought his accent was pretty good. I'm northern too.

Enjolrass · 08/12/2015 15:15

Also Bretton hall is part of the university of Leeds but is quite far out, past Wakefield.

YANBU. Why don't they use a northern actor instead of someone with a fake northern accent? Confused

bangbangprettypretty · 08/12/2015 15:26

Celtic he made up the character so that's why he gets to be the star!

YANBU. Why don't they use a northern actor instead of someone with a fake northern accent?

Because he came up with and wrote the show?

Outaboutnowt · 08/12/2015 17:05

It's a fake yorkshire accent but they do talk like that!

None of us in Yorkshire sound like that.

HTH Wink

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 08/12/2015 17:11

He sounded very odd in the xmas show last year as he didn't have a northern accent.

celtictoast · 08/12/2015 17:31

Because he came up with and wrote the show?

Ah, didn't realise that! Fair enough then Smile

However, I do think there are too many instances where actors with fake accents are used, instead of finding an actor that comes from the place in the programme and has the real accent.

Pastamancer · 08/12/2015 17:44

Like Poldark celtic? A genuine Cornish accent is a rare thing on tv

whohasnickedmyvodka · 08/12/2015 17:47

Mr bloom is definitely cornish I went to school with him :) :)

Wagglebees · 08/12/2015 18:00

Watched a brief clip. He has a generic Lancashire accent. I didn't think it sounded exaggerated. When he said 'Hey' it was bordering on 'Ey up duck' but otherwise it's fine.

maxxytoe · 08/12/2015 18:05

He sounds sweet fuck all like a manc coming from a manc Confused

Hoppinggreen · 08/12/2015 18:07

Sounds Oldham/Rochdale to me

queenMab99 · 08/12/2015 19:12
