To really hate Christmas shopping

Thought I'd get started today on my lunch break. I don't understand how you can walk amongst the piles of tat and feel anything other than dispare. I'm going to retreat back to the office and do it online I think.

I'd hate to start early. Where is the fun and Christmas spirit in that? I don't understand people who start buying Christmas presents in January either, especially for kids, their interests and wants change! By the time Christmas comes someone probably already has something you've bought them a year ago.

You can get bargains leaving it late too and then you are buying things you want to buy/are really wanted rather than because they are a bargain (with the exception of twitches)

I saved over £30 on 3 presents for ds last week purely by getting on Amazon early in the morning when each was £10 cheaper than their usual price everywhere. They were back up to full price the following day Grin

lubeybooby · 09/12/2015 10:41

I've done all mine online. Every single bit. Somewith my food shopping from tesco and mostly ebay and amazon. And amazon is fine especially with prime items... I'd be confident with them for at least another week

Daisysbear · 09/12/2015 10:46

Where is the fun and Christmas spirit in that?

I don't think running around the shops like a maniac, tired and cross as you grab last minute presents for people, is oozing Christmas spirit. I'm hoping not to have to go near any big shopping centres in the week before Christmas. More time to meet up with friends in the local, go to the carol service in the church, make mince pies, or just relax with a nice glass of wine and something Christmassy on the telly.

Birdsgottafly · 09/12/2015 11:17

OP, are you one of those posters who tell us off for discussing Christmas in October?

I don't leave important presents too late, but I've price watched and got bargains by leaving some gifts.

It's knowing what will rise and fall in price.

I'm in Liverpool , Click & Collect is in the shops, even from EBay within four days and the shops aren't that far away.

I don't buy gift sets, novelty stuff, I've cut down and everyone is happier.

I like to be in town as it's going dark, to see the lights, our lights, Giant Reindeers/Trees are lovely.

I went to Edinburgh and we are going to Manchester.

There's no pressure if you haven't got serious shopping to do.

MrsJayy · 09/12/2015 11:23

MrsJayy · 09/12/2015 11:26

Yesterday I bought an exercise mat from Argos (a present for me!). I bought it online at work, then after work walked down and picked it up. I was very impressed. No faffing with catalogues or endless queues.

jamtartandcustard · 09/12/2015 11:39

I love Christmas shopping. but hate crowds so it is all done in bed, with the laptop and a cup of tea. bliss.
i'm all done now, and its all wrapped and hidden away but that's due to necessity. 4 dc's to buy for, could go into labour any day with dc5. couldn't risk leaving it in case I do go into labour and there's only 7 school days left of term so 7 potential buy, deliver and wrap days left. would find it far to stressful having it hang over my head like that, its a lovely feeling to be relaxed and prepared

MrsJayy · 09/12/2015 11:49

I love click and collect its so easy

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/12/2015 14:28

I love the Christmas Shopping but I need to go back to my car a few times to put my bags in the boot (note to self: put the reciepts in my handbag not the shopping bags)
Fight off the drivers who want my parking space.

Make sure I have some notes/coins for small items or if I don't want to use a card.

Remember my carrier bags Xmas Grin

I have still to do my Sainsburys shop (buy ahead/buy last minutes/food between now&then)

I was out looking in November but there was nothing in the shops really. So I don't buy too much ahead.

I am an online shopper for pretty much everything tbh. I will venture into the shops tomorrow for a wander and lunch with sister and may pick up some extras too. Only thing online is hard for is if you can't think what to get someone...it is easier to get inspiration when wandering.

shebird · 09/12/2015 15:18

Can't start it, especially the shops full of tat, Christmas music playing and everyone frantically spending money on rubbish.

MrsJayy · 09/12/2015 15:35

We normally do it over 2 days ive usually bought my amazon by now but will be fine i dont twitch i enjoy the tatt and christmas mayhem

Heyheyheygoodbye · 09/12/2015 15:37

I do it early. Buy bits all year actually. I love it and this way I spend less, spread the cost and don't buy tat in a panic. And I do it all online! Bliss Xmas Smile

Redglitter · 09/12/2015 15:38

I've done everything online for the past few years now. Got the bulk of my stuff selected and will be ordering it tomorrow - that way I don't have to pay til January.

Definitely the best way to do it

HackerFucker22 · 09/12/2015 15:40

Online where possible and the other stuff I try to do 'out of hours' (ie not lunchtime or when people finish work)

Going to head out at 7am for last minute supplies but we have the main online food shop coming the day before - booked months ago and added to as we go along!!

HackerFucker22 · 09/12/2015 15:41

7am on Xmas eve

Badders123 · 09/12/2015 15:44

Amazon.
All the way.
Prime member so I order stuff and it arrived especially next day. Got a couple.of great bargains on black Friday.
Have been an amazon user for 15 years and never had a problem yet!
I use etsy for quirky, handmade stuff but have had one or two rubbish selelrs.

romanrainsalot · 09/12/2015 15:51

No, YANBU.

It stinks. I hate it. Done 90% of it online this year. Went to Toys R us to look at an item for DS, grrrrr, silly random people meandering and getting in the way.

I like shopping online, plus lots of sites have videos etc of the products so its much easier to see what you are getting. I think its also easier to get something a little bit different for people, rather than just go to the same old high street stores for identikit gifts. I'd like to support my high street, but parking is pants and store layouts give me rage, the shops are too hot, but then its cold outside so its coats off and on, carrying them and the shopping oh no!

Tinklewinkle · 09/12/2015 15:53

I hate shopping at the best of times, christmas shopping just about finishes me off.

I always fancy the idea of a nice mooch round the shops, getting into the spirit of it all with all the lights and Christmas songs choosing presents that everyone will love, but half an hour in I'm bored, I've lost the small amount of patience I had, people keep pissing me off, I've panic bought wine glasses for my non-wine drinking brother and if I hear jingle bells one more time I'll fecking scream.

Lap top, sofa and cup of tea - job done

I need to pop out for some stocking bits - knickers/socks/hair clips/that sort of thing, but I'll do a late night trip to Sainsbury's when it's quieter

DisappointedOne · 09/12/2015 16:51

I'm doing no Xmas shopping AT ALL this year. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Grin

Sunnymeg · 09/12/2015 17:08

I do it all online in October and have the food delivered as well on 23rd December . I like Christmas Day, but don't like the run up to it as we have had three family members die in December in previous years . I always remember shopping for a funeral tea in Sainsburys with all the razzmatazz and Christmas music going on and now I associate all that with unhappy memories and try my best to keep clear of it all.

ElasticPants · 09/12/2015 17:17

I have done all mine online. I hate shopping instore. There's too much stuff and too many people and stuff to carry.
I spent a morning with my iPad in a coffee shop, with a gingerbread latte to make it festive, with a list of what I planned to get everyone. Best idea of mine ever.
