Dd2 is in yesr 5 and has had 2 days off due to vomiting. Her previous school required students to be kept off for 48 hours so I just followed this procedure.
The attendance officer has basically said that to get attendance back to an acceptable level she needs to be in school every day for the next 3 weeks.
aibu to think this is a bit harsh. Obviously she is likely to be in but she can't help it if dhe gets ill.

The trick with appointments is to get them for AFTER your child has been registered, either morning or after lunch That way it doesn't show up as a 'late' on the registration system.
My son had regular orthodontic appointments, and it was much better that he went in, got registered and then I picked him up later in the morning, or after lunchtime registration, so that it didn't show up as missing a whole session. He still got awarded 100% attendance at the last Effort and Achievement award ceremony in the Summer term. I just made sure to let the Attendance Office know exactly what time he would be leaving school, and made sure he was brought back promptly.Good communication with them was key - I always emailed them before the event AND sent a note in on the day.

Dd is currently off with a sickness bug, school have said she can not return until 48 hours after last vomit or craps. So she's off til Thursday at the least so far. In the same call pointed out to me that this will mean her attendance dips because of the short term time and not to worry about any letters the school may send.

I've been and collected work for her to do at home and one of the other parents said they never tell the school the dc has been sick, they say headaches instead so that they don't have to take time off work because of the 48 hours, which I understand but it's makes it more likely other children will catch it. SIL says there's often posts on Facebook where people talk of the puke they've had to clean in middle of night, or how their dc has the craps etc and the kids are at school the next morning.

A couple of morning appointments I've been told by school to take her in, follow dd into school, wait outside the class while register is taken and she then comes straight out.
