DS's friend a twenty something male) is an elf at Christmas grotto. There are other elves one of whom is an older woman. Santa didn't turn up one day so DS's friend had to be padded up to play Santa. Why not the woman elf? Also DS's friend has been made chief elf over her and she is furious.

You're a Santa's Male Exlusionary Radical Feminist? A SMERF?
Xmas Grin

PS I'm not miserable elf woman. With my girth I would be better at being Santa though

🏆 for you Vestal.

Congratulations for being so... I dunno... Right On?

It would have ruined the illusion for me. It would have ruined the illusion for DS.

Maybe I should consider identifying as one. I am a TERF already, so ...

Actually, Milk, objecting to a Santa with a lady's voice is trans-exclusionary. You don't know if that person identified as female! It could have been a manly man's voice! ;)

@Need: Why so shocked?

Equal opportunities! Who fancys letting a women in a sexy bishops outfit asking the kids to come and sit on her knee?

cleaty · 05/12/2015 14:08

When I was a child I was taken to see Santa who was played by a woman. Afterwards I demanded to know why my parents had not told me that Santa was a woman.

VestalVirgin · 05/12/2015 14:13

@Timri: Equal opportunity means that it is not a sexy outfit. Get your mind out of the gutter.

@NeedAScarf: To be honest, my memory is not the best for that time of my life. Maybe it was a neighbourhood thing that was done by volunteers. (Though I think the people deserved some payment - it was a great event, much better than the Mall Santa thing that apparently is so common and that I have never witnessed.)

A female colleague of mine was 'Santa' for the Christmas parade in her village on the 1st of December. She was awesome.
