It's my birthday soon and been asked by my younger sister what I would like.

< hope link work >

I love puzzles but can't do any as there is no where in my house I can leave an uncompleted puzzle and I love challenging ones.

It's going to be my 30th, apparently this is unsuitable.

Aibu to think why ask in the first place.

My 2nd choice was book tokens, in which this wasn't right either.

How ridiculous that she won't buy you what you actually want! My Mum bought me a set of spanners for my 40th because that's what I wanted. Why have something "significant" that you won't have any use for.

That said, the jigsaw roll is pretty rubbish, I found that the pieces all fell off when I unrolled it. That suitcase type thing looks good though.

And as for doing jigsaws on a Kindle - sacrilege!!

RebootYourEngine · 04/12/2015 08:20

The rolls are rubbish. You end up having to remake the jigsaw every time you unroll it. I have something that looks a bit like a portfolio case. I am sure i got mine from argos at about 30 pounds.

RebootYourEngine · 04/12/2015 08:21

The thing that Bin50 linked to is what i have.

fuzzpig · 04/12/2015 08:45

But the thing that OP wants, and will get use out of, is special.

If I were her sister I'd be getting the thing she asked for, and as it is very cheap I'd think of something else nice as a surprise.

CheesyWeez · 04/12/2015 08:54

I'm with Bin50 and gabsdot, bub who unluck and bake, Get the portapuzzle instead, much better. Stands up behind our sofa when storing the puzzle. It even keeps the little collections of 'pieces of sky' etc on lift-out boards.

Is your sister imagining a young man jumping out of a cake with your present - so a puzzle holder / book token doesn't cut it? Grin

GreenPotato · 04/12/2015 09:00

I hate it when people ask what you want and then complain that it's not what they want to give you. My mum is classic for this. She'll say "well I don't like that, so I'm not getting that. What else do you want?" Angry

It's what you want, that's all that matters. OK if it has bad reviews or whatever she might want to research and suggest a different version, but the present should be about what you want.

I like the sound of the mum who gave the spanners as requested :)

Viviennemary · 04/12/2015 10:46

She should get you what you want. But on the other hand if you like jigsaws why not ask her to get you a Wentworth wooden jigsaw puzzle. They are a bit expensive but worth the money IMHO. (You can see that I have form for not getting folk what they ask for and making other suggestions. Grin

iamEarthymama · 04/12/2015 10:53

OP If you want one of the rolls I think I have one in the loft and I will send it to you for the postage?
I am getting the Decos down tonight so can find it then.
PM me if you want it?

BUT the reason it is in the loft is that it is rubbish!

Your sister shouldn't be telling YOU what YOU want though, should she?

Maybe, as others have said, she could you a good puzzle and the folding puzzle holder?
I want one of those now Smile

PiratesLifeForMe · 04/12/2015 13:35

I don't really see why she can't just get you what you want and add something to it herself if she wants to give more? It's what you'd like after all.

My boyfriend is doing this with Xmas, I want perfume but he thinks it's boring and wants to give me something more imaginative.....lovely....but I really want perfume and can't afford it as well as pressies for him & the family! Confused[santa]

And I had the jig-roll thingy & it was pretty useless - upgraded to the big one and it's great, you can zip it up and store it out the way with it upright and not a piece moves! Perfect. Smile

PiratesLifeForMe · 04/12/2015 13:37

Portapuzzle, that's it, couldn't remember the name!

memememum · 04/12/2015 14:21

Someone v close to me asked me what I wanted for a big birthday then said no you have to have 'x' because it's something special that you can keep.I wish they hadn't asked Angry You will notice I can't give any identifying details as it is still a hurtful subject on both sides after yearsSad

sleeponeday · 05/12/2015 01:17

"No, the sister needs to get a grip and remember it's the OPs birthday, not hers."

Sure. But that isn't likely to happen, from what the OP has said, so constructive suggestions on how to move on with the personality her sister apparently has might be of use.
