To love my poundland Xmas penguin no matter what my friend thinks?

Light hearted Grin....I think. One of my friends was visiting today and asked where I'd gotten some of my Xmas decorations, particularly a little penguin made of tinsel. When I told her they were from poundland she proceeded to tell me they were gaudy little things! Especially the penguin as poundland decorations were 'bad taste'. Shock

Aibu love him anyway? Grin

He's cute, go back and get him some friends

INeedSomeHelp · 03/12/2015 14:30

I know someone like that. Will admire your scarf, top, penguin or whatever until you say where it's from. If it's not from somewhere deemed "acceptable" then it is no longer liked.

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 03/12/2015 14:30

If she hated them so much, why did she ask you where you got them from?

She'sprobably just checking it's not homemade or a treasured family heirloom first.

CiritheLionessofCintra · 03/12/2015 14:34

She's a bit hard to read sometimes but I think she was asking me to see if I'd bought 'brand decorations' like Debenhams it John Lewis!

INeed, do we have the same friend? Shock

I've been in a shop recently that had very similar decorations. It wasn't one of the cheap pound shops so I think it can only have been Waitrose. Or possibly Rockett St George online... Ive not been in many shops or looked at many decorations online recently. I checked Selfridges online Christmas store and unfortunately it wasn't there!

squoosh · 03/12/2015 14:35

My friend has hearts hanging on hairy pieces of string all over her house. I laugh at her for these.

I have a picture of a hedgehog wearing a bow-tie on my wall. She mocks me for this.

Some close friendships permit (good natured) laughing at other people's stuff.

PurpleDaisies · 03/12/2015 14:39

I have a picture of a hedgehog wearing a bow-tie on my wall.

That sounds amazing-when from? I need a hedgehog wearing a bow tie in my life.

I love your penguin op. Ignore your friend. It would be bloody boring if we all liked the same stuff.

skyeskyeskye · 03/12/2015 14:41

YANBU. Your snowman is lovely. and I bet if you said it came from Waitrose she would have loved it.

I can't stand snobby people. Who cares what something cost or where it came from!

CiritheLionessofCintra · 03/12/2015 14:49

I agree with purple, Squoosh. You need to tell us where your hedgehog came from. I have a fox with a monocle canvas that would match it quite well.

I've officially decided that I'm going to have an army of tensel penguins when she comes back to visit next. Grin

Hedgehog came from this shop.

Nothing tacky there I'm sure you'll agree!

SweetAdeline · 03/12/2015 15:42

squoosh that etsy seller is brilliant. I've now asked dh for the "lady sloth" for Christmas.

IJustLostTheGame · 03/12/2015 15:45

Buy her a twerking santa for her Christmas present

CiritheLionessofCintra · 03/12/2015 15:47

Squoosh, I'm sorry to say I've copied you and ordered the hedgehog. Grin

IJust, could you reckoned any good twerking Santas? I'm afraid we're lacking in these parts. Grin

There was a video of one on Facebook a couple of days ago. It's now 3 year old dd's favourite.....Hmm

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/12/2015 16:34

This means I am going to have to brave the bear pit that is Poundland on Saturday in the hope that I can get a tinsel penguin!

squoosh · 03/12/2015 16:36

You have wonderful taste SweetAdeline and CiritheLionessofCintra Wink

BanningTheWordNaice · 03/12/2015 16:37

OP are you my dad?

Germgirl · 03/12/2015 16:54

I love that Etsy shop! I'm definitely steering DH towards the punk cat print for Christmas.
I like the tinsel penguin and snowman too. If you can't have a bit of sparkly nonsense at Christmas when can you?

StarkyTheDirewolf · 03/12/2015 17:04

I had a friend who did this "where did you get that from? It's sooo tacky!"
My response was always "good job it's in my house then" Xmas Grin

rubymallorywhite · 03/12/2015 20:02

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks,
If wee sparkly pingu gives you a little warm glow then that's all that matters!
Your choice, your house, your pound, your pingu !
Not like you're expecting her to have one !

Infinitynose · 03/12/2015 20:14

I love penguin!

But I also love blue tinsel Xmas Blush

Kryptonite · 03/12/2015 20:22

I love him! Well cute. Oh, and your friend sounds like a right snob. Leave her to cherish her tasteful soulless and boring decorations and revel in your brightened festivities. Smile

Kryptonite · 03/12/2015 20:22

Strike out fail Blush

AlpacaPicnic · 04/12/2015 11:06

Ooh, a thought... is your friend attempting to colour co-ordinate her Christmas into 'Teal and Silver, with a snowflake theme' perchance?!

TAAT

Cheesybaps · 04/12/2015 11:42

Oh my god, thanks for that Etsy link! I'm totes buying the punk and gentleman cat prints for my "cat corner" Grin

They look just like my cats!

Your penguin is lovely, if you can't go full-on tacky at Christmas when can you?! [santa]
