Not to want to cook.Christmas dinner

I'm going to my sister and brother in laws for Christmas with my parents. My BIL.has suggested he and I do.dinner to give my sister and mum a break. Nice sentiment but I'm actually working Christmas Day. I'll be up.at 0515 then doing a full shift at work. I'll then go to my parents pick them up drive 45 mins to my brothers. I won't be doing presents with my parents until we get home at night.

AIBU to really not want to then go and cook Christmas dinner when everyone else has had a lie in and a nice traditional Christmas morning

I'm baffled why he decides your mum and sister need a break and not you. Yanbu to suggest you do starter and desert and they just get on with the mains. Sounds like he intends dumping it on you when you get three.

Common sense has prevailed. I ran his idea by mum who said it's ridiculous. She said she doesn't need a rest and even if she did she couldn't sit and watch me help prepare dinner after working an 8 hour shift and having the best part of an hour drive

Mum to the rescue Smile

Hooray! Glad it's all cleared up. Xmas Smile

Still think BiL should do it by himself though.

I make everyone help with food prep - it's the one day I won't do the cooking for everyone!

That's a good outcome. Maybe BIL will be doing it all, supervised by Mum!

I'm quite baffled by this. Did he actually surest it to you himself? What did you say at the time? And why did he think your mum and sister needed a break over you?
