I found Year 6 awful, bullying and leaving people out.. Kids got too big for their boots. Year 7 changed everything! New friendships, being the youngest year group was humbling and I think kids do a lot of growing up in the summer between.

I am a Guide leader (for girls 10-14), a teacher and I have three DDs (youngest now 14 in Y9) so speaking with some experience here

Y6 and Y9 are tough.
It's a period of massive change for them, and the pressures are huge. They can be appalling to each other and can equally be incredibly lovely (often in the same week)

I encourage girls to not be reliant on one best friend (or even one small group) Have interests outside of school that provides another peer group (Guides, Scouts, a sport etc)

My DD1 (21) says she wouldn't be in Y6-9 again for a million pounds. DD2 (18) - currently doing UCAS applications on the back of AS resits in Jan looks like the walking dead.

fatowl - I agree about the pressures on our DDs. They are appalling and unfortunately a lot of parents are quite naive about them.

My dd1's in yr 6 and especially as Christmas approaches, it's becoming pretty miserable, the first time in her school career. I agree with those that say too much proximity - roll on the shake up of year 7, new friends and broken up cliques

They are awful. Y7 a million times better IMO.

Much like Facebook then? Is it easy for parents to monitor like FB is?
